Hey Guys,

Im having a hard time figuring out what kind of Seymour Duncan Jazz Pick up will fit in my 2002 Streamer Lx Jazzman 5.

could anyone lend me some advice? (Preferably open pole)

Hey there. Check out the SJ5-3N - It's the same one that's in the P-Nut III bass which has a similar pickup configuration.

I looked for exact dimensions on the SD website, but couldn't find any. You may be able to call SD with the MEC measurements in order to ensure they drop into the MEC pickup routing.
 
I bought the SJ3N because I have one in my P Nut and unfortunately it was a bit too wide =/

sorry to necro this thread...

i'm having the same question, however it says you got a SJB 74, which I believe it the bridge pickup.

Did you actually get a SJB 70 for the neck, or was it really the 74 bridge pickup that fit the best?

Awesome! this has saved me a bit of work. I am pretty happy with the MEC MM in my jazzman but the noisy as hell single is starting to mess with my calm.
EDIT: blast, had a look and SD's appollo noiseless pups aren't made with the same dimensions. Now I still need to find a inline or stacked humbucker. I cant be bothered dealing with hum out of my main bass.

I am considering doing the same with a Bartolini Cbjd LN1 or LN3. Dual inline canceling humbucker.
I always end up touching the damn pole and is so noisy.
 
But I really love the sound of the Jazzman as it is, so I am a bit reluctant to change anything.
 
I love the sound of my Jazzman, except the very noisy single coil buzzzzzzzz in my house as its an old place with probably crappy wiring. the singe is super noisy unless exactly panned 50/50 with the bumhucker in single coil mode.
I guess the question is: what would be the best replacement to keep ( or improve) the sound of the front pup in a noiseless design? stacked? split? some other one I don't know about?

I'm with ya on the abnormally high buzz from MEC silver J pups. Don't think your house wiring has anything to do with it. They are known to be more noisy than most any other brand of passive J's. Totally unusable for me. I'm always 100% on the MM pup on my '07 LTD. And thank goodness it alone is enough.

Front pup is only used as a thumb rest :p

I know you're asking Augie...but I've been looking into EMG's as a replacement. My only concern would be not having to use the EMG preamp/controls, as I can't lose the unique MOP knobs on the '07. And correct me if I'm wrong...but the posts are different sized diameter...I think. I guess one could simply use an EMG pup and wire it into the MEC preamp. Unless there is something that would prevent that?

Or a crazy idea, that I've never once heard of before...would be some way to Jerry-rig the MEC silver, to lessen the noise. No idea what that would be. Some sort of shielding just under the wood line maybe? Crazy talk. lol

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to just wire another passive pickup into the MEC preamp. I do really like the MEC pre and MEC MM pickup so I don't really see any need to swap them out. I just want to be able to use the front pickup!

Ditto! I think I'll be buying a passive EMG J soon.
 
Well, I just ordered a Bartolini 59CBJD-LN1 neck pickup from BestBassGear.
I'll get it installed when arrives and let you know what I think of it, though we are probably looking for different sounds.
 
Btw, for those who might be interested in the future, a Master Luthier from Bartolini answered a question that rise from time to time regarding changing active pickups with passive ones.

He wrote there's no need to change the volume pot from 500 to 250 ohms, only with 500 ohms the pickups will sound brighter, but there are players that prefer that. Good to know, as I'd like to try some day Bartolinis in my SSII without changing anything else.
