Set Up Problem

Hola!

I am the one who makes the set up of my basses, for years I've achieved great low action, perfect intonation, etc. Lately (the last 2 set ups) I couldn't afford a good low B tone, I can't slap it on any of my basses.

The basses that I am talking about are:

2013 Thumb BO 5-string
2013 PS Corvette Std Bubinga 6-string
2012 Corvette $$
2011 PS Thumb BO 5-string
2009 RB Corvette Basic Passive 5-string

and I use Warwick black label on all of them.

Could this be a problem of the new strings? Factory mistake? Or am I missing something I've never learned about set up on this last string.

Note 01: the E string on the PS Thumb BO sound the same, like an old string and the slap is ♣♣♣♣ty.

Note 02: I experienced this with the last two set ups I made. I change strings every 4 months to all my basses since 2005 when I learned how to do it by myself.

I've had to shim the neck on every Thumb BO fretted I've owned (three so far, not including fretless) to be able to set the action I desire.
 
You're saying out of nowhere, all of the B-strings on all of your instruments have gone dead? I'm not sure if that makes sense. Was the pickup height played with at all? If you're using Warwick Black Label, you're using taperwound B strings - although that would explain it being LOUDER, not quieter. What were you using before?
 
No no no, I mean that half of the B-string that I bought on november to make my set ups came wrong from factory. I asked a friend who uses black label and red label too and he says that it can happen.

The string sounds but it sounds like an old string, not a new one.

I've been using Warwick strings since 2011 and this problem just appeared one month ago.
 
Strange. Can't tell you what's wrong. I don't use Warwick strings.
 
sounds odd.

Torsion can deaden a string.

Relax the string let it turn freely - tighten again and check.
 
sweat kills the string fast. my e-string on my main bass dies soundwise sometimes after a week!

I always put the string watching that it does not go like this, that way string will wave on a proper way.

I don't know what else to do, I will try tomorrow a different set just to prove if the string came dead from factory or not.

And about what Herbie says, this problem appeared when I put the string and started to make the set up stuff, so no sweat :(
 
Put that dull sounding string on another bass. If it has the same problem on another bass this means you have bought crappy strings.

or that you make the same mistake while stringing the bass:/
 
Erm I actually think you have hit a wrong batch of strings.

A few months ago I ordered Warwick Redlabels, nickel (2 sets ) and steel, also 2.

With 3 packages the E-string was drop dead! Totally dead sound, almost sounded like a flatwound string.
I ordered them @ thomann, I contacted them and explained the story and after a week I got a response that it could have been a wrong batch or something.
Received 2 new packages of strings. Unfortunately 1 of the packages had a dead E string too!

Eventually I got tired of the contacting and now I'm all on Prosteels :), really close to DR's and more then half the price!
 
ALso 4 months for Black Labels are 3months and 7 days too much if you want a nice slap sound :-)
