Series/paraller switch for single coils

I've been thinking about adding a series/paraller switch for my Corvette Std. I have almost convinced myself in actually making this happen. Anyone done this to a Warwick bass with single coil pickups? How exactly would it change the sound of this particular bass? I know some newer American Fender basses have this kind of switch but haven't been lucky enough to hear a Warwick utilizing it. I know Warwick uses series/paraller switches for the MM pickups but that's not what I mean here. Any answers will be highly appreciated. Discussion's welcome.

I heard a Thumb with a switch that wires the singles into a series humbucker.. it sounded awesome, bigger, fatter and more aggressive.. as for the sound of the Vette's singles paired up, I think the most accurate description would be moving the sound from J bass towards the P bass..

I am curious, I say do it and post sound clips! Should sound good. It will be different than P pup; both pups span all the strings, and much farther apart.
 
i'm currently doing this mod with my thumb.
a difficult aspect is getting switches that have a long enough barrel to mount easily without having to route,
apparently aguilar makes some mini toggles that are good for this- i ordered a pair, i'll let you know how they work out.
what i'd really like to do is find is the appropriate resistor in order to cut the series gain so that it matches parallel.
my experience is near doubled output in series with bart p4's...
there is such a difference between the two tonally (equally beneficial, i might add)
that it warrants drilling a couple holes in the bass...
 
Some Fenders have those S1-switches. The idea is you can switch a J into a P and a P into a J. Of course it doesn't sound like that exactly, but I liked the sound of the J with this switch. Good idea to do on a Wick.

Here's a little "Food for Thought" about series/parallel switching;
The $$ Streamers and Corvettes have a 3 way switch for each p/u,[ NECK p/u is coils A&B, Bridge p/u is coils C&D ] parallel position [ coils A&B in parallel ], single coil position [ coil A alone ] & seires position [coils A&B in series ]........How about a 4 way switch for each p/u.....the 1 extra position would be coil B alone on the neck p/u and coil C alone on the bridge p/u.
Again just food for thought.
 
Nice idea! The Streamer Ltd. of 2008 (?) had twin-J pick up, with such a feature. But they hadn't the single/parallel switch. Both would be brilliant:)
 
got in the aguilar switches today.
nice long threaded shaft, should be a relatively easy install...
no routing will be needed.
now to figure out the wiring...
 
Is there a way to modify the push/pull control (on an active corvette)? Instead of bypassing the preamp eq, it would switch the pups to series. Is this possible?
 
No, but I used to share the rehearsals room with an amp tech. And no matter what I wanted to do he was able to do in 3 to 5 minutes :-)

I could seriously use a friend like that :D
 
switches are in, you can check out the details in my thumb odyssey refurb thread...
despite the added length of the switches, i still barely got them in.
what a huge asset to the tonal capabilities of this bass, worth the trouble x10.

He is so nice. But somehow savage, probably because he lives a lot in a basement fixing things. I remember I was in the middle of rehearsals, and I showed to him my Bass Balls pedal and I said - Only if it had a "wet/ Dry" pot, so I could mix the clean signal with the one with efect.

And he took the efffect from my hands, and left the room without saying a word. 10 minutes, he came back, and handled me the effect, without saying a word. The effect had an extra pot...

Haha, cool. Some people just have some MacGyver in them.

I haven't taken my Corvette to the local tech yet, been kinda occupied with my recent addition to my bass family, the Infinity SN. But well, maybe next week. Wish I knew how to do it myself :D I couldn't even install the EMG preamp in it. Totally clueless with everything related to electricity installations :P
 
Breathing life into a lukewarm thread....

Perhaps there is an simpler modification. Can we replace the pan pot for another pan pot that has a push/pull switch for series/parallel? Do these pots exist?
