Hello All,

I am in the market for one of these. I wanted to know how well are these compared to the older models? I have been thinking of a Ibanez bass, please talk me out of one. I am also looking for a photo of the Frotress 5 in Burgandy.

Hi buddy, well, if you like Ibanez, buy one, it is personal :)

However, the new Fortress is awesome, you will love it! Ask the shop that sells it to make a nice setup for the bass, and you will be very happy :)
 
You probably wouldn't go wrong with either but the new Rockbasses are magnificent instruments with the Fortress being the best (in my opinion anyway) although I still haven't had a chance to try a new Streamer NT yet.
 
Thanks All! I just ordered the Rockbass Fortress 5 in burgundy. A long wait!

I was wanting to order a brass nut for this bass, is it a direct fit? How do you change a nut?

Congrats for the new bass, please post some pics when you have it :-)
The brass nut is a direct replacement, yes. Unglue the old one with a sharp knife, then glue the new one back. Some say the base plate can need sanding, but never happened to me.
 
I used to like my purple Ibanez Ergodyne - My first active bass and it was great - I like my Wicks better though - Everyone has a preference for sound and feel - There are lots of nice basses out there

Does the brass nut make a difference compared to what comes stock on the Rockbass?

To me it is first about being safe in tour. I had my bad experience with a bass falling directly on the nut. The screws stripped, the fix was easy I put a piece of paper below the nut, and in 2 minutes the bass was ready to play again.
Soundwise I am not sure... I think if you have a spare plastic one always with you, you are safe enough :-)
 
The Fortress 5 has German hardware and the pickups and pre are German also?

While Ibanez makes great playing good quality instruments, I find them sounding quite sterile and lacking character.
Just my 2cents.

Does it really matter where the pre and pickups come from?
 
Just wondering. Per the website they are MIG. But I have read differently.

Got my new Fortress 5 yesterday! All I can say is WoW! This bass is amazing! Love it. I have owned many Warwick's and this one is right up there.

I will add some pictures.
