Hahahah... look at this guy trying something....

Remove the dot inlay, and put gold hardware on it, and it will look much better.................I'm guessing it still is and sounds like a piece of cow dung anyway............ :lol:

despite of the looks ... why would it sound like dung "thrirdthumb"? :-)
 
I've had the humbling pleasure of actually playing a Ritter bass. I'd trade my wife for one.
 
I've tried a couple of Ritters too & they're up there with Warwick,Alembic,Drozd etc etc.
One man's meat is another man's poison Thirdy. :wink:

Well,

it's not because of how it looks, but because it's one of those pretty unknown brands (Ktone) that sell these instruments for less than half of what a decent instrument should cost. I have never heard a good sounding bass for this kind of money. Ok, I haven't tried many, but I have played some...........

Wait a minute...............maybe there is some confusion here. I was referring to the Ktone bass (with a buy it now price of 159 $).
Personally, I think Ritters are awesome, although I'm not a big fan of these exotic looking basses, or the ones that are stuffed with diamonds and stuff.
Ritters are one of the basses, like Jerzy Drozd, that I might consider buying if Warwick didn't exist............

I totally 100% agree with ThirdthumB on why the KTone is ridiculous to even consider if you are a Warwick player (c'mon) and that a good Ritter bass (not a fan of the Jupiter or the diamond encrusted unnecessary extravaganzas), or a Jersey Drozd, or an Alembic would be on my list (personally, I favor the Drozd) if the W didn't exist.

Im torn between Warwick and M-Basses right now...
 
I would think it looked "interesting" if it didn't look like the ritter. I don't really like that particular ritter body either. Why would someone copy a body style that's so unique? it's obviously a bad impersonation. like the Dean sledgehammer looking like a thumb gone bad.

True on both counts! When I first saw the Sledgehammer, I thought maybe I could own a poor man's Thumb. Man, am I glad I didn't go that route! Looking back, I wanna slap myself and ask, "What the hell was I thinking?!"
 
they say imitation is the biggest form of flattery, but unless it's done well, it looks ridiculous. I like to see improvements made instead of just cheaper imitations. Like Sadowsky Jazz basses or G&L's (which are still Leo fender designs, but better than the current "fender" designs) which improved upon the original concepts.
 
I like the Ritter sound, but can't picture myself playing one anywhere.

I can see and appreciate the craftmanship, but the moment I would be given one(I'll never buy it that's for sure) I'd sell it and get me a fretless SSII fiver.

It got a bit of topic here :-) :D

The first picture is a rip-off and someone was selling it on eBay. The bottom picture is the Jupiter original.

I sent the eBay link to Jens Ritter and I got a reply back today. He actually bought the rip-off. :D
