Rip Sean Malone

One of my ultimate bass heroes. A great musician and a great person. I had an honor of exchanging a few messages with him, and he was very humble and down to earth.. And truly what a loss for Cynic, to lose both Reinert and Malone in the same year.. But i am sure that them two are jamming out as we speak, in a better place. RIP

Terrible news, he was a huge inspiration to me, and had one of the best bass tones ever.

For all fans of Malone's, there is a remix of Traced in Air, in which his bass playing stands out much more fairly in comparison to the original mix. The remix also removes growls (which is a shame imo), but Sean's playing is much more audible and adds a whole new dynamic to the album. Thought some of you guys might enjoy it :)

Cool! It says that "bass lines were recorded new"; does that mean that they were done by someone else? If not, isn't it kind of strange that they would do that, and not just mix the original ones properly..?

Nope. Bass lines were re-recorded by Malone for this remix. Funny, this is one of the things we talked about. He was dismayed with the way TiA was mixed, and he mentioned also that re-recording Focus with the whole band is something they were looking forward to. We talked in 2016 but still, i was really looking forward to that one.

It is sort of weird now that you mentioned it though, but it is what it is. I think he enhanced a few parts, but i also noticed some key notes i remember are missing :)

Vuk ! long time bud, how’s it going?

Ken! How long has it been, like 8 years man? Great to see you and other mainstays kickin' here :) Where to start? Well, in short, i got my bachelor's degree, played and toured in a metal band, got sick for a whole year (all good now), and now i am going through the process of joining Ubisoft Belgrade :) In terms of playing, i haven't moved a zilch, my Corvette is soldiering on, though i need one more string badly ;D But yeah, if the thing with Ubi works out, i am planning to make my own recording heaven in my apt, and of course get a 5string Thumb or some custom Corvette ;)

How have you been?

Ubisoft as in "we delete bug report threads from our forums to pretend the bugs do not exist because we must keep selling our broken big release title at any cost"?
Swell...

Nah just kidding man. Would be a nice opportunity if you could slip in there and get creative. Great to see you online here again!

Hey, DiMarco :) Great to see you mate! I've had a chat with Jeroen, and he really inspired me to get back here and check with my bass brothers :) We'll be seeing each other much more frequently in the future :)

Exactly, that Ubisoft. My job would be to try to fix those bugs :D I enjoyed a lot of their games back when i was a kid, and the only recent title i've played is R6:Siege. Yeah, i mean it's a good foreign company to work in here in Serbia. Since we have so many S.Korean and Chinese companies breaching into workers' rights here :D People are really nice, and there is also that creative component which gives some dynamism to the average workday and all. We shall see though, nothing is a given.

I've never been shocked with the death of a musician as much as with Sean's case. I truly did not anticipate his passing or my reaction. What can I say.

Extremely sad... I read elsewhere that it was depression that got him:(

Absolutely with you on that one, i never felt this way before when a musician died. He had so much more in tank. I feel like throughout his career he never got the credit he deserved. Then again, Cynic is a band that's hard getting into generally speaking. It just makes you feel angry in a way too. But I bet Sean was a guy who couldn't care less about fame. It's so hard relaying how huge he was, to others who are not into Cynic.

Wow, congratulations on the bachelors degree and the touring, and glad your health is good.
