Okay for about 3 years now I've been jonesin' for a Warwick amp and dur to nobody in North Carolina crrying them I put it off and have stuck with my Ampeg rig (SVT 5 pro,4x10,1 x15 classics and various rack components). I have decided after how great my Blue Cab 15 sounds to swap it all in for a Warwick Rig. Now just to figure out what to get!!
 
Go tube path! Cant beat them (apart from the hellborg $tuff).

Warwick Tubepath and Xtreme, unlike Hellborg, are not transparent sounding amps. They have a built in sound. Tubepath has a midrangey vintage sound, while the Xtreme has a modern and articulate sound. Of courso you can sound modern with the tubepath and vintage with the Xtreme if you like... but they are two VERY different beasts. You cannot have a Lemmy- ish sound with an Xtreme, but the Xtreme can sound very TOOL.
I own them both, and I do prefer the tubepath, but I have friends that like the Xtreme more.
 
I have acquired a gritty sound with my X-TREME and 411ND. Sounds ballsy, has clarity, lot's of low end without mud and it cuts through when the drummer isn't using nos :lol:

I would like to try the Tubepath, I've read so many good things about it, but I don't have any way of trying it out.
 
i have think i have one of the best tube amps around! :twisted: ampeg b-25 baby, in all of its 1969 glory!
 
I believe I am going the Tubepath 5.1 with a 2 x10 and 4 x10 Warwick pro cabs so I can split it up depending on venues.

It was an excellent amp in it's day,but amp technology has evloved alot since then.I cant help but think if vinatge wasnt so fashionable,things like this would'nt be considered so cool.In the 80's,stuff like this was considered an out of date joke,now it's the best thing ever.That's all down to marketing.
Bottom line is,If you like it,that's all that matters.

It all goes back to what popular opinion tells you is cool( not to knock your amp Andrew,because alot of people truly love vintage this is for the other sector). For a while it had to be bigger and better and louder. I fell into that trap this is why I have a 1600 watt head. i by no means play in venues that are big enough to hold that kind of power so I rarly turn past 2 or 3. Now if you look in Bass mags and or online bass forums Vintage is the way to go. I feel that all vintage sounds a little muddy and you can tell they all have that mono am radio feel to it. once again that is all personal opinion. I love my ampeg but since it is discountinued and the purchase by LOUD oarts for my amp are non existent. I don't want a foreign ampeg and Warwick has really touched me musically.

the tubepath is THE amp if you are looking for something "ampeg-ish".
AMEN

X-Treme is cool for almost every other thing.

+1, i though ampeg was the best of the best as far as amps go???
 
Well it spent 7 monthes in for repair last year and then i had it back for 2 monthes and back in it went. The SVT 5 pro is a discoutinued head. When LOUD technoligies acquired Ampeg they shut down the repair centers so these repair people got rid of most of there ampeg stuff. So parts for my ampeg don't exist. I had my board repaired completely re done the last time and just really don't want to go thru that again. So if I buy a new Ampeg it will be made in china so I decided why not go with something else now while I have a chance.
 
I also thought that Ampeg was the s*it, but also found out it was s*it-heavy and s*it-expensive. And s*ipped to C*ina. :wink:

Now, I`ve mostly played with SVT-CL, and it sounds pretty cool, but still to one-dimensional. And Ampeg is not particulary exciting anymore.
