Re-Maintenance?

Hey there guys, i don't know if this topic belongs here, but i have a little problem.
I got my Swamp Ash 'vette some 3 months ago, and ever since i've waxed it regularly, especially the neck, cause i jog too much under 12th fret, so it was expected for me to do a little damage to the wood.
the problem is, this happened. after one rehearsal, i took out my wick from the rockbag,slided, and felt a relatively rough surface on one part of the neck. This is not a drastic rough surface, not a large-scale problem, but is there any way to restore that smoothness only with beeswaxing the thing 2 times a week? or i must do something else to restore it, if it is possible?

sorry if this topic is ridiculous, this is my first 'wooden bass, so i'm kinda new to maintaining it..
 
Can you describe it better? Maybe you feel the laminations, your neck is multi laminated.

maybe, but i hadn't felt it before.
it's just like, ~2 square cm's of ovangkol neck surface aren't that smooth under your thumb when you play, they became a little rougher. maybe i'm exaggerating, dunno. i'll keep you posted.
 
Well, no matter what it is, with some lemon oil, and some #0000 steelwool, you solve the problem in 5 minutes, including cleaning :-)

Be sure you cover the pickups with tape if you do it.
 
You don't need to wax the neck. Your hand will naturally buff it.
 
I've had a similar problem, but it's on the body just above the neck pickup where I rest my thumb. My hands get a bit sweaty so the wood on that point has actually gone grey and blunt. I was expecting this to happen but not to this extent. Waxing gets rid of it but it comes back very quickly. Any more long-term solutions? Lemon oil on the body yes/no?
Oh and a newbie question for Florin, when you stress the fact that one should tape over the pickups is this just so you don't get stuff on them or is there some other underlying reason?

The pickups are magnetic,so they attract steel wool filings.If they get into the pickups,they can blow them.It's alot safer to use a Scotchbrite pad.
The thumb mark above your pickups is hard to avoid unless you put a small piece of clear tape over that area.

You can get these Motrax from motorcycle accessory shops to protect paintwork. Clear, black or carbon fibre.

The dots are 2cm in diameter, the strips are 6cm x 2.5cm.
 
Cool - but I think mine is going to have to make do with an expertly administered strip of good old scotch tape ;)
