Range..?

I was just wondering how you all feel about how many strings there are on a bass?
I felt in the beginning of my bass playing time that 4 strings was what you need. The standard bass.
Then I got my 6 string. I was a new world. Atm Im playing my 5 string Infinity, but I kinda miss that 6'th string a bit. It was fun to have, to throw on some chorus or something and play chords, or pop and tap the high notes. People came over to see the bass, cause the thought a bass should have 4 strings.
I have for a long time looked at the Vampyre and I know thats what I want as THE bass. I have started some threads about what kind of finish you would recommend, woods, LED's etc, but now Im thinking of, how many strings?
I have been drooling about a 7 string for some time.. To take it all out. The insane bass with everything you could think of.
And I saw.. You can have the 7'th string as the low f.. !
Can you have the 7 string setup and a vibrato at the same time btw?
The big neck is something alot of people see as a problem, but I dont feel that way. Im not a shredder or anything, I just want to have fun!
Would you ever have a 7 string bass..?
And on a side note, do any of you have any information about the Bullet pickup? I think its a interesting thing, but The price tag is high! Is it worth it do you think, or would you rather get an extra bass?

With a low F# involved, what are you planning to use for amplification?
You'd need a seperate subwoofer tbh.

I have played 6 strings and found myself almost never touching the C string so I sold it and never miss it.
 
I havent planned the amplification part yet, hehe. Might go for the high instead of the low. I just dont think they are in the way, so its nice to have.
I havent used the C that much, but its more for the fun. I have to agree, its not often you get to use the C string when playing normal bass lines, but you always have the option to make something out of it yourself ;)
 
In my opinion THE bass has 5 strings.The low B should be mandatory for any bassist (just kidding :P)
 
4 STRINGS FOR ME.... Im sorry, but I just cant get the hang of a 5th string. WIth the stuff I play 4 strings is all the range I really need. I do sometimes go down to a low D for which I have a hipshot D-tuner on my bass, but other than that, I am most comfortable with my 4 stringer.
 
I own 4 & 5 stringers, I tried many 6ers and I liked 'em. If I ever buy a 6-strings, I'd go for a F#BEADG tuning...only whales could then hear me ;-p
 
I always dreamed of a 6-string because I am a big fan of Dream Theater and also love to show off with my limited solo abilities. The extra high string could add an edge to that.

But I always lived with a 4-string world until I got my RB Corvette 5. Now I think the low B string is mandatory. Now just for the notes but I think it is the right place to rest my thumbs. :d
