Question about MEC electronics

hello....i have a question about Warwick rockbasses......does anybody know if they have the same MEC electronics as the higher-end basses?

Its the same electronics, its just not all the rockbasses have preamps or active pickups. But all the electronics used are the same as in the german warwicks.

I don't think so... In my RB 'vette the pickups are the same, MEC gold, but the pre is definitely different.

I was wondering more specifically, the difference in electronics between the Vampyre Rockbass versus the high-end Vampyre....

Could someone please explain to me what the pre-amp is, what it looks like, and where it is located on the bass?

Hey dude! The preamp is a small chip board located inside the electronics compartment of the bass, between the pickups, the control pots and the jack - it will be attached to a battery. As for the difference between the RB vampyre and the 'real' (term used only to differentiate here) one thing that I do know for sure is that the RB vampyre has a 2 band preamp and the 'real' Vampyre has a 3 band preamp. The two band preamp has 4 pots (control knobs): volume, bass, treble and pickup pan. The three band preamp has 5 pots: volume, bass, treble, pickup pan and middle. The difference is the pot for 'middle', which gives you extra control over your tone. Easiest way to think about it is: 2 band = bass and treble. 3 band = bass, treble and middle.
