Project: Warwick Streamer 94

Hi there,

I just acquired a body and neck (bolt on) of a Streamer 94. It has a maple neck with Wenge fretboard, the body is Alder, I suppose .. or is that Maple? Anyway, seems to be a predecessor of the LX basses. The plan is to eliminate some scratches and the oil finish with 0000 steel wool, give it a red oil finish, wax it then, finally, re-equipt it with EMGs and chrome hardware ... will keep you posted about the steps of the project in this thread.

For the time being: What bothers me is the neck pocket. It does not seem to be deep enough for the neck. The neck shows typical signs of aging: The wood has darkened where it was exposed to light, and the dark/light pattern suggests that this is really the original neck to this body ... refer to pic 7) BUT: It is strange to me that the fretboard does not touch the body and sort of "hangs over" - see pic 1. Is that the case with all older BO Streamers? Also, what kind of straplocks fits in the large bore holes (pic 3)? ...:confused:

the holes are for jim dunlop recessed strap locks -->look at the P-Nut III

The fretboard extension is normal - it would look odd otherwise
 
Nice score Florian.
All bolt on Warwicks have this same neck pocket.This makes for maximum neck to bodywood contact,resulting in maximum tone transfer to give a long sustain & good projection of notes.

Yes, the neck should look like that, it is normal. As others said - budy is cherry, ant the holes are for Dunlop Flush mounted.
 
Thanks guys, I got it from somebody in Spain. And after the soccer match yesterday (Spain 1, Germany 0) I can honestly say: Let them have the soccer title as long as I can keep the bass! ;-)

Seriously, it's making good progress. I have cleaned the body with steel wool and treated frets, fretboard and headstock with lemon oil. Hope to have eliminated all remains of the old finish so that the colored oil will work on the body. Will test that tomorrow. If it does not I will apply sandpaper (very, very carefully).

Also, the Warwick Internet shop has already processed my parts order so I expect to have the missing parts tomorrow. By the way, guess who answered my email I sent to Warwick (asking which electronic compartment to install in this lefty bass)? CEO HP Wilfer himself. Wow. The best public relations for a company is a CEO speaking to the customers. Honestly, I would have expected this from a small company that sells some dozen basses a year. But not from a group of companies like Warwick. A+++.

Hi Tom,

I'll let you know! But the leftys from these days are hard to find actually so best don't count on it. :-)

Am facing some problems with the colored oil finish, it takes ages to dry, but it will be OK I s'pose, just needs some patience. All the parts are there as well, hope to have pics of the completed project and audio files by mid Sept - early October. (First of all: Holidays!!!)

I am on a hunt for a nice old Streamer but you are right, left handed ones are hard to find!
