i have found an interestingly priced profet3.3 (300W @4ohm?), hwat would be the best cab to pair with this, most new wick cabs are 8ohms?, i'd quite like a 1x15" to get deeper freq response.
any thoughts people.
thanks

so, i took the plunge and have bought this item, i should recieve it on wednesday, just need a cab now.
whilst it says 300w @ 4ohm min, what would happen if a 300w 8ohm speaker was connected?

You lose approx 30% power using an 8ohm cab with a head rated at 4ohms. So 210 watts approx. Maybe just look into finding a 4ohm 1 x 15 cab. I'm sure they exist (as long as you're not planning on buying a second cab at some point. If you are, stick with an 8ohm 1 x 15 cab).

I think the size of the cabinet is doing more than the actual watts in this combination. I played 300w profet into 8 ohms 411 and it was loud enough :)
But Alex is right!

thanks for this guys, its much appreciated. can't wait to get my hands on the amp, but it'll have to wait until i get a cab to go with it, but when i do, at least i'll have the amp (heres hoping it all works, as i have been assured it does), but i have a tame techy that would be able to fix it.
until then, it'll be a headphone practice amp.

Good for brushing up the technique. Headphones I mean. I am doing this now :-)

Yeah the sensitivity of the cab makes a massive difference in cab volume but thats another massive topic :p

so, the profet 3 arrived today, and i'm pleased to say it is in good condition for a used piece of kit, its been plugged in and thru my sennheiser 32ohm headphones it sounds superb, clean and crisp, a couple of the pots has a bit of crackle but thats probably due to dust and it eases when used, all the knobs have an audible effect, so all in all, i'm a happy puppy.........now just got to let the wife know about it.........i'll post some pictures.

only until i get a cab to go with......
so i bought it off ebay, and it seems to be right, but........
there is a paper sticky label on the side casing with some odd text, that now makes me question its validity, text is a follows...
"BB0BZ01KKOSWU, AUSEAMPL80WR, £99.99, SEPERATES, pu26582, 1105B"

so the key things are the 2nd and 3rd items, my senses tell me that this reckons its an 80watt amp and cost 99.99.
this is less than i paid, i have asked the seller for some "feedback" without suggesting they have done the dirty.
is it worth taking to my tame tech guy and asking for his opinion.
to be fair though, the seller could have attempted to remove the sticker, but hadnt. if it is a pup, then its a good looking/sounding pup.

I can't imagine someone putting another amp into a profet casing. Don't worry. You have a 300 watt amp there

hi, thats what i am thinking, its an awful lot of work to do, and makes no real sense,
If the seller has made profit on what he bought it for then thats fine, i think its called 'business'.
I am going to take it to my tech guy, for a service and check up, but thats only cos its a good thing to do, i'm in no rush to use it as i now need to start a fund to buy a suitable cab (or perhaps build one).....

so, ive had the top off this beasty and taken some pictures, im more a mechanical person than electrics, but it might be helpful if somebody could take a peak and comare with their profet model. i would saw, it was very clean inside the casing, and looked quite new, which either means its been serviced or it is "new". anyway, i'm sure all will be revealed in time.

so, heres the insides, looking very clean, for a 10yr old amp. thoughts, or just stop worrying, eh?
