Profet 3.2 question?

Hey guys, I'm new to Warwick gear. I currently own a ashdown mag300 and 4x10 cab which runs at 8 ohms and gets 175 of my 300 watts.

I played a friends Warwick bass and was amazed at the quality. An on my search I came across someone near me selling their rig, which is the profet 3.2 (same wattage as the ashdown) and a 611pro cab which runs at johns I believe.

Now I can sell my current setup to a friend and it will only cost me 250 to get the Warwick rig.

Is this worth doing? I'll have a 4ohm cab that way which will use my amp power better? But is the 3.2 enough to run that massive cab?

And yes....I need to be LOUD haha. I play mostly 80s hair metal and heavy stuff. With the occasional ballad and punk style song.

Should I do this?

Hi man, and welcome to the forum.
There are a lot of Pro Fet fans here, and they have their reasons. I am not one of them, hahaha!!!

It is a nice amp, but please consider it is an entry level amp. It is not very loud, and it is not an upgrade from your setup. Look for used Xtreme or Tubepath if you want a good sound :-)
 
Oh don't get me wrong. I want to upgrade my head in the future. I just thought this could be a good idea cos essentially I get a better cab and same power head for 250 au dollars.
Then I can upgrade my head when I have a little more cash... Will the 6x10 with 300w at 4ohms from the Warwick be louder than the 175w at 8ohms into my 4x10 current setup?

The Pro FET 3.2 with the 611 Pro cab will be much louder than your current rig. If you buy it now, you can keep the 611 Pro Cab and upgrade the head later. I've had a Pro FET 3.2, two Pro FET 5.1s and a Pro FET 5.2. I liked them, but now that I have an X-Treme 10.1 I realise they're entry level heads... nice enough, but when you're ready, you can go to the next level.

Have the 3.2 its not very loud but like the sound of it and well you can get it loud but there will be alot of clipping.
 
Don't be afraid to drive the gain pretty hard on the Pro FET heads prior to the adapted volume controls of the 3.3 and 5.2 versions Emil - the gain structure is very conservative, and you can get your clip LED flashing pretty often without any audible clipping. With your verion of that head, use your ears to listen for audible clipping, and back of if you hear it. It's fine to have the clip LED flashing a fair bit.

The 3.3 and 5.2 Pro FET heads don't need to be driven as hard, which gives them more apparent volume, but it's really just that it comes on earlier in the Gain section and master volume controls.

Phew think the clip led is pretty sensitive? Since if i mute strings with fret hand and slap on other it clips but I don't hear anything :< Well any clipping

Don't worry if the clip LED flashes..... listen for audible clipping and back off if you hear it.

Hey guys! Got My new rig today. Turns out the cab was the 6 ohm version.... But because of that I talked him down heaps and ended up breaking even with what I got for the ashdown :) now to play around with it hehe
 
Wow - nice work.

The WCA611 Pro is always a 6 ohm version I thought... how could you make 4 or 8 ohms with 6 speakers? 12 ohms maybe, but not 4 or 8.

My apologies - I just checked... there is indeed a 4 ohm version of the WCA611 Pro cabinet!

They must have used some custom drivers with lower impedance values to achieve that with 6 speakers.
