Problems with setup

Hi All.

I've got an issue with my Corvette Std Bubinga. Every time I put on new strings, the B and E strings always sound dull, no matter what type of strings I use. It's an '05 model. The previous owner changed the nut to a JAN 3 and all the hardware to black. I've changed the tuners to Hipshot Ultralights. I've used Daddario XL nickels and ProSteels. I've even tried DR long necks but somehow the E and B strings just sound dull. My bass is tuned one full step down (ADGCF). Any help or advise would be really appreciated.

maybe twisted strings?

relax the string and let it turn freely so no torsion is on the string.

another possibility I can think of is a problem with the Pus (switch to others and check if problem remains).

I've got one other problem with my 96 Corvette. It's a wenge neck and I just got it shipped from US (I'm in Singapore). It was shipped with the neck separated from body so that the shipping is much cheaper. When I assembled it and did some setup, I noticed the higher registers are higher than the rest of the neck so anything played from the 13th fret onwards is totally unplayable. Any fix to this? Or do I need to let the neck get accustomed to the climate?

sounds like a forward bow that can be adjusted with the trussrod.
