Problem with my dirty blonde

I have a 2006 LTD dirty blonde thumb that sounds great. One problem, though: when I play it I rest my thumb on the neck pickup, and it seems that the screws that are holding the pickup in place are too loose, and pickup gradually moves upwards towards the strings, until it actually hits the strings and renders the bass unplayable. The only way I have found to alleviate this problem is to tighten the screws, but that leaves the pickup in a position that, sound wise, is way to low for my liking. Any ideas on how I can make the pickup stay put where I want it, and still allow me to rest my thumb on it?

Take the pickups out, get some epoxy glue, mix with some sawdust and fill the holes. Take a drill and make holes in the epoxy/sawdust when it's all dried up (wait a day or so) and screw your pickups back in.
It's what I think I'd do.
Wait for some heavier expertise that can explain more carefully.

hmmmm, i never heard of this, how hard do you rest your thumb on the pickup, i do the same thing (rest thumb on pickup) and my pickup is not loose at all?? weird :?

Yeah, I find it odd as well... I do this without problems on my thumb NT. The dirty blonde, though, has springs beneath the pickups pushing them outwards, so I guess that could add to the problem...

The picksups need to have springs under them to maintain their position.
Take your strings off,unscrew the pickups & check the ferrels(lugs that the pickup adjustment screws go into).If any of them are loose,just get some epoxy glue & stick them back into the wood.Make sure you dont get any glue into the threads though. :wink:

Be sure both screws are equally tighten when you do the setup. And then, try not to press the pickup when you play

As per the previous advice, make sure you're screws are equally tight on both sides. Also, if they are perpetually coming undone, ordering some new screws will help, as they seem to grip tighter.

My Dirty Blonde and my SS1 both have the P-pickup and they are rock tight, so you can rest assured that your problem can be solved.

Follow the advice given and you will have success:

1. Check for loose screw anchor furles and epoxy them into the wood if any are loose... You can also order new ones if you find any of yours have stripped threads.

2. Replace the screws if need be, or wrap your current screws with a thin layer of "plumber's tape" from a local hardware store. This tape isn't sticky, but will do a great job of keeping the screws locked into place!

3. Keep the screws equally tight and check them from time to time.
