Preamp replacement - a problem with a knob

EMG circus is less than preamp, they were made for EMG pickups, to separate tre/bass, and make a balance to control the vol of pickup, I try many preamp, EMG & bassline sucks, just give OBP-3 or Bartolini preamp a chance, they will blow EMG away, trust me.

Btw, MEC preamp is so so, but still much much better than EMGs, can you see the range of EMG is very small? It give the original sound of your PUs, so is MEC but more range!

I have to completely disagree. I love the EMG BTC on my Vette, the sound is just awesome and gives lots of variations to tone as it's running 18V. I didn't even try it in the normal 9V config because I heard from so many people that it isn't that good that way.

Damn, could the voltage make so much difference? My experience with it @9V is that it makes the tone thinner when engaged and flat, but it adds a certain "punch" to the sound that might be desirable to some people.

18v on EMG provide more headroom, said by EMG, I try 9 & 18v....no big different, 18v is not = double, if 18V make u feel good, just go for it.

there were a lot people try whole EMG both pickup & elect., a little different than MEC but not better, those pickups are good but EMG pre.....why?no matter what kind pus or preamp you use, Corvette always sounds great!

Agreed, I don't think there's such a thing as a push pull balance control anywhere. You need to use a stacked vol/balance.

I gotta admit,I didnt check to see if a P/P balance pot was available before I suggested it,so sorry for the false hope,but a P/P vol/balance is gonna be the way to go(with an OBP-3 running at 27 volts )

Stacked vol/balance knobs are used on Dolphins. The pull on them switches to passive.
2nd stacked knob on them is EQ lo/hi. Pull on that switches bridge pickup mode.

So, as Jester pointed out, stacked vol/bal knobs are available...

The only solution is buy MEC vol/balance stack, there is a push/pull used for passive/active switch, you can use it for TJ PUs, but I still wish you don't do that, MEC, barto, OBP....are all way better than EMG circuit, I got whole EMG on my self made Jazz Bass, the only reason is EMG is the cheapest, the Jazz bass sound the same just with out the EMG pre.

There is another idea you can use, use no preamp, just is 25k pot, 2 volume pot, 1 tone pot, you can find tone pot with push/pull, you can use EMG pot if you really like EMG, they are easy to find.
