Preamp Problem in my Katana NT

Hello everyone!

I bought my Katana new from a Guitar Center around Christmas last year. It's a great instrument but now i've run into a problem.
When my bass is plugged into an amp it makes shaking and buzzing sounds. I've replaced the battery and the connections are fine however the problem is always there. When my bass is in passive and turned all the way down the buzzing is gone however in active the sound is always there and gets louder in both modes as I turn it up; however the buzzing is subtler in passive mode. A bit of the signal gets through but it is irrelevant due to the buzzing.

Either way I don't know what the true problem is but my bass should be under warranty still, but I've had a really hard time getting any contact with Warwick. The manager at the GC tried helping me but I think has given up :\

I was hoping someone here could give me some advice or point me in the right direction or give me emails or numbers to call.

Thanks!

Hi mate & welcome.
It sounds alot like a flat battery. When you replaced it,did you put a fresh, unused battery in?It's best to use a Duracell,or equivalent, rather than cannibalise one from an effect pedal;)
Your warranty should be handled by the dealer(GC)that sold you the bass. This is simply an electronics problem that can be fixed without the bass being returned to Warwick. You dont need to contact Warwick, but concentrate on getting the dealer to honour your warranty.
Where are you located at?

Thanks!
Yes I used mutliple fresh batterys, different cables, amps and rooms even; same problem.
I tried talking with the manager at Guitar Center and he gave me a weird number that asked for a store number or something weird. Either way he got a different number to call me and I left a message back and haven't heard from them.
I reside in Denton, TX and bought my bass from the GC in Arlington, TX

Q: How do I obtain warranty services for my Warwick product?

A: Please contact the
Warwick dealer where you purchased your equipment. They will do the warranty evaluation.

This is from the manual, found here,

If you received a manual with your Katana, maybe you should show this to the store manager,& point out to him that it's really his job to undertake any & all steps necessary to provide you with what you paid for.A working bass guitar.

Register your bass here,

If all else fails, use this link to send a service enquiry.

We dont have GC in Australia, but I've heard that while they can give you a good price, their service can sometimes be lacking.Stick to your guns & politely insist that your problem is taken care of in reasonable amount of time. All you should be doing is taking the bass & receipt of sale back to them,& they take care of it from there.
Keep me posted please.

Well i put an email into the manager about 5 days ago bringing up that it's under warranty and that it's the GC's responsibility to fix it and I haven't gotten a reply.

So what should I do now?

I have a contact at a different GC location who's always been helpful and responsive with me; could he help me out at all if he's at a different location?

I dont know the finer points of GC's warranty procedure, but I think a warranty claim has to be processed by the dealer your bought the bass from.
I'd try contacting GC head office, direct your enquiry to whoever is responsible for warranty claims personally. If you do that,I'm confident your issue will be seen to asap.Include copies of all emails you've sent to the manager of the GC you bought the bass from & point out the lack of reply etc.
Can you take the bass into the dealer?Call first, ask to speak to the manager,& make an appointment to see him personally.Take the bass, the warranty, sales receipt, everything you got.Highlight the area in the warranty card that states it's his resposibility to fix your bass,& be nice, dont lose your cool, but also dont take no for an answer.
This a simple issue that GC handle every single day.It should not be this difficult for them to keep their end of the bargain.
Keep me posted mate.

Sounds good; I'll be making a trip to Guitar Center in my near future and I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again for the advice

Well I have some good news, Saturday morning I'm dropping off the bass at a shop in Ft. Worth where GC will send them a new preamp and they will install it and it's all covered by the warranty :)
My contact at the other GC came through :d
