Polish Warwick-style basses

So, two main polish bass manufacturers' instruments seem to be a little bit inspired by Warwick...

Check out Mayones:







and GMR:







both were using Warwick's hardware, fretwire and many specs until recently. GMR actually was a polish distributor for Warwick for many years.
 
whoa, theres some crazy shapes going on there, i can see the warwick in the first bass very corvette inspired i sense.
 
First one there looks like a bit like a Corvette with very nearly the...girth of the Fortress. :( But it looks balanced.

The others look like a bit more of a departure from Warwick though, which is good I think.
 
as far as i know those are the same people also building the "fame" basses for musicshop in cologne.
they look pretty nice, though they are not my kind of thing.
 
yes, they use MEC pups as standard. In the past, they've been using Warwick hardware as well. And yes boebl, Mayones is the maker of the Fame and Flame lines. Fame are generally Fender, Gibson and MM copies, whilst their own design guitars and basses are named Mayones.
Don't you think that the GMRs look like the bastard son of Streamer and Fortress?
 
I actually like the shape of that first one - it looks like a Corvette for sure, but has some of the Streamer in it as well to give it a new shape. The upper horn for example, looks like a thinner version of the Streamer, yet the thinness keeps the overall shape looking like the Corvette. Then there's the Streamer's contoured top (of course, the ergonomics of a curved back are missing).

The other basses look pretty nice too, but the first one is the one that has obvious Warwick characteristics in the body design. It would have really been something if it had the Warwick 2-piece bridge, like the bass below it. The other basses don't have too much in common with Warwick, but they do have characteristics of other basses I've seen. That tells me this company has no creativity of their own. And as nice as the woods look, I doubt they take the time or have the connections to give you the best quality specimens.

In the end however, I only play Warwicks and the only thing worse than playing another brand, is to be caught playing an obvious imposter!

excactly!! these are original models.... see the elec cavity? that shape is also unique too and not borrowed either.... The MECs.... well I guess they are pretty good so we decided to use them too however we have been thinking of expanding and create the WEC electronics. :wink: :lol: :wink:
 
the first one is a corvette/streamer combo looking thing. I like all of those basses. none of them are blatant like the Dean Sledgehammer (horrible, awful, nasty ripoff of a thumb).

as far as I can tell, all basses have 80% in common anyway(meaning they're guitars, with necks, bodies, pickups, electronics, made from wood, metal and plastic), so enjoy the eye candy!! it's hard to be original these days!!

The first bass you've shown is identical to the "Fame Baphomet"
but sorry, it's not musicshop but musicstore


Here you got the whole family together. Got to play them on Musikmesse this year - they have a cool look, but it forces you to think of a Warwick sound. And that's something they simply can't achieve. Sound pretty airy and dull.
