PNut3 preamp issue

So, I pick up my bass tonight to play and I notice the mini toggle switch is not in the position I left it in. It's down and to the right. I try to move it and it's frozen in position. It hums like crazy till I touch it and then there is play in it, in and out.
The bass didn't take a hit or anything, I just played it last night. Is it normal for a mini toggle switch to collapse and freeze? This makes no sense to me. I don't even mess with the switch that much.
Do I order the same switch from SD or will any 3 way do? Thanks.
 
Did the switch come as part of the preamp or is it a MEC/Warwick thing? I can't find the pre with the switch on the SD site.
 
Hi Gerry, Just take the bass to a tech, the problem will be solved in about 30 seconds, they must have this kind of switch in a little box somewhere :-)
 
it is a MEC switch that has nothing to do with SD. but you can take every ononon switch that fits in the hole:-)

simply open the comartment and you can probably see what's wrong.

if you post a pic I will give my 2 cents:-)

I pulled the switch out. Looks like it will have to be unsoldered from the little pc board it's on, unless it comes with the board. Not the biggest deal, just that out of all the Warwicks I've had, I've never had an electronics issue. Good thing I wasn't on a gig! Guess I'll be keeping my Fender close by when I play out.

No big, I'm pretty good with a soldering gun. Besides, techs out here charge like Audi mechanics!
 
Hmmm, the guitar center tech I took the bass to, says the switch must be ordered from Warwick or MEC because of the pc board it's soldered to. The pins on the replacement switch are not the same size and won't fit into the board even if he unsoldered it. Does anyone know if the switch I need comes soldered to the pc board?
I called Warwick CS today (NYC) and left a message. I hope they call back soon.
 
Oops, should have checked Mec site first. Looks like they just sell the switch without the board. Well, unless there's something special about the pc board, I'll be doing it myself. I'll have to hit Radio Shack in the morning. Plowing snow all night;)

If I saw someone here out gigging with a P-Nut III I'd probably go see them every show!

First thing, thanks Schlobodan for mentioning the on on on info regarding the switch. 2 different Radioshacks tried to sell me a center off switch. I ended up getting the proper switch from a Guitar Center shelf. The tech I spoke with yesterday was correct about the pins on the switch being too big to fit the motherboard. So, after photographing and hand scetching the wiring layout to the pins on the switch, I began carefully desoldering the existing switch and wires. Once I had the switch disconnected from the motherboard, I used some wire from old battery leads to make extentions for the new switch. 6 pins got 6 short wires into 6 corresponding holes on the board. I then added a longer ground wire from the sleeve ring to the board as well.Fortunately, the extentions I made were just long enough to let me find a spot for the little motherboard inside the cramped cavity. Since I used an "all parts" switch, I now have a flat switch instead of the little baseball bat switch. I actually like it though because it looks and feels more sturdy. Still chrome too and if this switch ever goes, it will be a much easier repair.
