Greetings! days ago came to my mind, a curiosity about the Pickups in general, in the case of basses that have the configurations $$, JJ, PP,SB(Soapbars)
the Pup of the bridge and neck are coiled, voiced and configured different each? or they are just the same pickup but located at different places?
 
bridge pickups are generally longer & voiced differently to neck pickups.
 
you could write a book about pickups and all the different things that make them sound different.Wire thickness,amount of turns the type of wire the magnets used,the list goes on.It's a interesting subject.
 
on passive double pickups sets, usually bridge pickups are overwounded than neck ones, to compensate for lower output due to the differen positioning.

as suggested above, due to greater string spacing toward the bridge, bridge pckups are often wider
