Passive pups: J, P, TJ, MM....?

OK, I need a little 101 on pickups here...

I know pretty much the general "P Thumps, J growls" kind of rule, but what's up with a TJ? how does it sound compared to a standard J?

and the MM compared to the TJ?

Basically the impression I got was that the TJ is just like two J pickups next to each other. Basically that's what it is too.

yup, that's what I gathered as well, but them what will it do to the sound?

Will it make it beefier? growlier? louder?

In short, what's the point of a TJ?

near the bridge the strings have less amplitude because they vibrate less (i mean at the same frequency but smaller amplitude) the twin J compensates for this

Fair enough, it's basically just louder...

And the MM? is it just louder than a J as well?

I don't find one louder than the other, but I do find the J pickup to have a cleaner sound and the MM to be dirtier sounding. It's great for heavier music too. If you can ever try the $$, you'll see what monsters the MM's can be!
