A few months/weeks ago I started a topic in which I wanted everyone to post a few "exsquisite" woods that they would like to see Warwick offer in the custom shop. I guess the topic paid off, if you'll just look at the wood section of the custom shop page.

New woods added are:

Basswood
Black Walnut Burl
Buck Eye Burl (My personal favorite)
Camphor Burl
Chakte Kok
Golden Madrone
Spalted Maple A
Spalted Maple B
Spalted Maple C
Koa AAA
Koa AAAA
Koa AAAAA
Mahagony
Madrone Burl
Thuya Burl

Thank you Warwick for giving us such a huge addition of very interesting woods! With these new additions there really will be no limit to what you can create for us!

P.S.: Sorry if I spoiled the surprise, I have no life!
 
Basswood? Warwick is stooping to that level? *shudders* I will never own a basswood instrument again... My washburn had a basswood body, the wood is oh so soft and wayyyy to light (felt cheap)
 
now this is some great news..those woods look really beautiful..i'm curious to hear them sound :D

i'm not really a fan of buckeye burl..but black walnut burl, camphor burl and golden madrone look superb :shock: :shock:
 
I have nothing against the Burl woods, but I just REALLY hate the word. Burl, it rolls off your tongue like your vomiting, I really hate saying it.
 
Gotta give it to you there, it is a retarded name but they look awesome. Does anyone know anything about the way they sound?

With a side of birds eye maple fretboard and some bartolini dipping sauce

Nothing big on sound... Usually just used a top.
 
Swapping the Fafner for an EA I-amp H8ER?Thru those epifani cabs your basses'll sound great.If you have a great bass,or a few as in your case,then an amp that just amplifies your bass's sound without colouring it makes alot of sense.They became available here recently so I'm itching to try one out.
 
Fantastic news! Just wish it had all been available when I ordered my custom shop back in February :cry:

Yeah, I really recomend that you give one a try. I was amazed. I am thinking of keeping the Fafner but im not sure if the misses or the wallet can cope with that idea :)

Well - I have three basswood basses, all Fenders. My precision Lyte is very.....err.....light, and not the best toned bass. However, my Japanese Precision and Jazz sound absolutely awesome - easily as good as anything in Alder. OK - so you wouldn't want a trans finish, and I admit the wood is soft, but as a tone wood - if you get a good bit - imho it works well.

Other experieces with basswood or was I just lucky?

YES! I agree we are going to see some major eye-candy coming out of the custom shop in the next month or so.

I hope they manage to fit in the wood pickup covers soon... Any word on those Olie? If it comes in the next year I might have to change the next bass I get into another warwick.........

I personally think that wood pickup covers would really add a new level to warwick IE "the sound of wood". Even though the wood doesnt change the sound of the pickups it would still be neat.
 
It seems 2007 is going to be the year of new fancy stuff...

For what I know JAN version 3 is on its way :D

We are working on it, but at this point it's hard to know when this is going to be available for the public.

argh. hope i get the job i've applied for so i can start saving up for a new addition to the bass family.

the burl woods, and the golden madrone looks amazing!
 
Yes, the new woods are very tempting. The Golden Madrone kind of looks like it is liquid. Simply amazing. By the way: Warwick wants 700 € for a Buck Eye Burl top on a Swamp Ash body. I guess you could get it for 500 € at your dealer.

Cool, so wooden knobs are next on the list?
Should be IMO.

My BIG wish is to see on www.warwick.de description [tonal characteristics, weight etc.] for each custom wood.

It would be possible?

We are still working on all the wood descriptions and tonal and physical characteristics. But hopefully we will add it to the website some time soon.
