Ouch! my Neck...

I recently took my 2002 BO Thumb Bass 5-string to a luthier, to have him look at some possible raised frets. After looking at the bass and adjusting the rod, he told me that the neck was warped and could not be accurately adjusted. The fix, he said, was to remove all the frets, get the neck as straight as possible (which he didn't think was possible anymore with this neck) and then shave the fretboard down until it was flat, then re-fret.

Ok, that'll cost about $500 bucks and there is no guarantee that the neck will remain true, given that it is already warped. In fact, this neck had a severe twist to it, which I have already 'fixed'. Now it seems warped like a ski slope and won't be adjusted flat, no matter how much I turn the rod. The rod works, it bends the neck, but the wood is too irregularly warped to make a difference.

So my question is:
Can I trade in (for a fee of course) this neck for a NEW one? I do not want to try to fix this one anymore, its had it. I want a new neck that behaves like a precision instrument should, with accurate intonation and all that. I know Warwick doesn't give their necks away, and doesn't sell them out of hand either. But could I give them my old neck and buy a new one from them? And how much would that cost if I could. And who would I contact to get it done? I'd hate to have to buy a whole new guitar, I like this one...

Sorry to hear that about your neck, I remember when you were trying to fix it. The pricelists on the web site used to mention that a replacement is possible (and with very reasonable prices I might add). You had to return the defective neck, and you could only get a neck with the exact same specifications i.e. you couldn't trade in a fretless for fretted or a different wood. I just checked this year's pricelists and couldn't find it though. It used to be at the end of the pricelist. Perhaps Flo or Greg know more about it.

I just bought a mint 07 thumb 5 bo broadneck (i didnt even know these were available aside from the custom shop) and I have the same problem. Well, minus the warpage. S.O.A.B.!! The truss rod is stripped :-( if you have any luck with a replacement from hanser, or any other source for that matter, would you please contact me and let me know how?
