check them out, theyre sick and flores is using a five string corvette double buck
 
wow. his attack hand is right on the neck during the last part of that song. very interesting. i find i get a lot more control over the strings right in front of the bridge.
 
during the last part of the song its hard to tell whether hes tapping, or plucking but yes he plucks very close to the neck as part of his style anyway, and i too find more control by the bridge, to each his own i guess! :wink:
 
yes, it's amazing. recently, i have started playing closer to the neck and it feels quite floppy to me, but it was recommended to me by my last instructor to play in different places for different sounds so i decided to give it a try. i find it incredible that he gets such articulation and speed in that position, but i am certain that is what hours of practice and performance can do for you!
 
Stian Hæstnes in Dimmu Borgir also plays wiht his right hand on the neck, and although you don`t hear a disctinct bass, he pulls it off well and it works overall. I`ve tried it, and it is easier to pluck, but I don`t think it sounds that well yet.
 
Origin are incredible. Really top-notch band. Mike Flores is really an innovative player.

Of course, if you don't like death metal you'll hate them :mrgreen:
 
Play wherever you need to to get the sound you're going for.

Sometimes I play over the bridge pickup, sometimes I play over the neck pickup - sometimes in between. Sometimes I play near the neck, sometimes I play over the neck up near the twelfth fret.

Just depends on the sound ;)

You can get so many different sounds just by varying your technique it's not funny.

The origin clip is cool.

Not totally my thing, but the band is tight and they've got some pretty gnarly technique.

Don't like the singer though. He just seems angry because he can't find the doughnut shop.

+1, got their new album about 2-3 weeks ago. Very good and intense tech death band.

Ugh....metal....

Nice clip though.

I find varying playing position to be the easiest and most effective way of changing sounds within a song...I often have my right hand moving up and down the strings (12th fret - bridge) during my lines to 'flatten' or accentuate various notes in the line.
I reckon it makes at least as much difference as pickup blend.
 
very true. a great deal of your tone is in your hands. it is just something to get used to.
