I just put on a fresh set of EMPs that cost me S$80. i felt that the action was too high so i took a look at the relief of the neck. too high! those EMPs must have a lot more tension than my prev strings. took out my truss rod cover and tried turning it. damnit. I felt some free play with the truss od tool. shone a torch into the cavity and...

that's it! my warwick truss rod nut wore out. Now it's gonna cost me more to replace it! on top of that i've already sent my rockbass for defretting that will set me back S$330, i'm in the midst of ordering the JAN III, some new hardware, not to mention the $80 i spent on the strings... and I'm supposed to save some moolah for recordings with my band!

Warwick should really do something about their truss rods. I'm afraid of getting a NT model now. sigh.
 
Are you the first owner? I did a lot of setups for W basses, and never destroyed a nut... I know it won't make you feel better buddy.
Try contact your local dealer and let us know what he will say.
 
Sorry to hear about this Titus.
Did you buy you bass new or used?If you bought it used,it might've been that the previous owner used allen keys to adjust the rod,damaging it.This is why I'm always preaching,use the W tool ONLY.

It's been sitting on the wall of the shop for a about year when i bought it. and i swear I've only used the Warwick truss rod tool to do adjustments. I've also faithfully oiled my neck every now and then and am desperately pushing my distributor to get some warwick wax so i can seal the neck off from moisture as much as I can.

Tthere's an infinity with a maple neck at the shop for many years now. it'll be fine after a minor setup. There's another proline that has a neck curved like a ski ramp! I can stick my finger under the strings at the 24th fret and no i'm not kidding. I'm guessing it's the raw ovangkol thats causing the problems in this crazily humid weather. Warwick has to step up its truss rod development or seal their ovangkol necks properly.

Don't get me wrong though. I do LOVE Warwicks but they really need lots of TLC. I cannot find any other bass that can give me this kind of growl and power. I just wish Warwick never had these problems.

Right now my vette still plays ok. the relief isnt that bothersome but could still be better. Anyway, time to find some holiday job and work my ass off to repair my baby.

One qns though. Should I order the steel or alloy truss rod? What's the diff? My vette std was made in '05.
 
You might be able to turn the rod with a pair of long nosed vice grips Titus.

Unfortunately in this country where Warwick sales are extremely low, the motivation for the distributor to service its Warwick customers well have followed likewise.

Thx for the concern guys. yeap. Singapore. Small country, stupidly humid weather, small number Warwick customers. But at least I'm lucky enough to have a dealer locally. I'll contact them and see what they say about my warranty. What's the usual warranty period anyway for you guys?

I'm just pretty pissed that this has to happen when i'm outta cash. Guess i have to wait a while before i get it set up properly.

What kind of truss rod was my vette fitted with? which truss rod is better?
