All “Made in Germany“ Warwick basses now come with an improved method for pickup mounting. Compared to the Pro Series and RockBass instruments manufactured in Korea and China, which normally use brass hammer plugs for their pickups (something that no other Far East manufactured instrument offers), all Warwick bass models that are manufactured in the Markneukirchen factory utilize the “non plus ultra“ version with threaded brass screw anchors along fitting drill holes that warrant a perfect pickup mount.

In order to implement these new threaded brass screw anchors, Warwick had to invest in a special tool for the installation of these perfect anchors on the instruments.

Our forum had a good influence, as you reported this issue, and we solved the problem.
 
FINALLY! This has been the biggest issue with my Warwick since I bought it! FINALLY! :d
 
I hope mine will be made like that as well, the shop does not have one in stock and needs to order it from Warwick directly when the transfer arrives, so I guess I stand a good chance...that said I will not really mess with the PUs to check closely :)
 
I didn´t know ´wicks have popping pups issues.

Good to see Warwick is improving their designs all the time, and that they listen to their costumers and users problems. This is the best way to do business, IMHO.

the first one was hammered in the wood

the second one is screwed in the wood

The first one when loose stayed loose:-)

never had the issue though:-)
 
I wonder if they will be available as spare parts? it might be good if you did get loose plugs if you could get the new version on its own and get you friendly luthier to fit them in place of the old ones.
 
I think if you ask your distributor he can help anyway.
 
Oh i dont need one, its just that there are heaps of wicks out there without them and its nice to be able to fix things better than the original. like the JAN3.
 
here in the US, you can pick these threaded brass inserts at any hardware store..

what is the size/thread pitch for the screw/bolt??

this is on the first google search.. you can buy a single threaded insert, or 50K.. most of the companies will manufacture custom inserts, but i'm sure the cost would be very, very high..

it's not like it's some magical, unobtainum thing.. the trick is, being able to install it without breaking the threaded insert, or installing it at an angle.. (trued variable speed drill press with the proper insertion chuck, and predrilling the hole to the correct inside diameter.. and soap on the threads of the insert..)

Florin, i apologize if i've started something, again.. i didn't post this to create a controversy, or contradict the improvement of the new inserts.. it's meant as a general information for those who would like to have a tech repair their bass in this way..

i, in no way, suggest that any one install these by themselves, unless you have prior experience with brass inserts.. they are NOT easy to install correctly.. it is very easy to strip the driving notches on the insert, even with the correct tool.. and if the hole is not properly drilled to size, the insert can, and will, split the wood along the grain..

well.. i did find the part.. true, not at a local hardware store.. i can go to my local Lowes Hardware tomorrow and find out if they can get these brass inserts, in metric, or not.. it's quite different when our local hardware stores are the size of a typical football field in Europe.. ;)
