newb questions about the hellborg amps.

i just started looking at them (ill need warwick to give me one for me to have it). but what do i need for it to work? the cabs are rated at 500, so would i need a 250 power supply. do i need that power supply thing? which cab is best for just buying one cab? (in terms of best, i mean best tonal coverage). thanks

A normal bas head has two stages- the preamp stage, where you shape the sound, and the power amplifier stage, where the signal is amplified for the speaker.
JH system has them separate, and that gives you more possibilities. So...
- If you don't use a cabinet at all you don't need the JH power at all
- If you don't have that much money, you can still have the same great sound for the Hose PA, by buying the JH pre and a cheaper power amplifier

First of all you chose the speaker combination, You can use the Big Cab, and the Club cab as stand alone. You can use the Low Cab + High Cab, or Big cab + High Cab or low cab + club cab.
Depending on which combination you use, you chose then the power amplifier, to match the speakers.
For Big Cab you need 500W, for the rest of them you need 250 W each. So if you use two of them, you can use a single 500 W and link them parralel, or a stereo power, and link each one to a channel.Of course, if you use the big cab and hi cab, you can buy a 500 and a 250 power too

thanks flo. i was just curious because everyone is raving about these amps. Solid state amps are wierd. With tubes (so i've been told) you buy a 500 watt cab and then buy a 200 watt head, that way you have more head room. is that how solid states are? I'm really interested in that club cab, but once again (french speakers will be needed), je besoin d'argent, beacoup d'argent. je achete becoup de basse gear, alors, je pauvre.

its all subjective.

some people buy a more powerful head so they're never push the head too hard

some people buy more powerful cabs so they never push the cabs to hard


i just follow two rules personally. make sure the the cabs/heads arnt more than twice/half the rating of the other (eg with a 500 watt head dont use more than 1000 watts of cabs or under 250 watts worth)

secondly...make sure your not clipping the heads preamp to the extent that its creating distortion. its this that will damage the cabs most likly

Of course, if you use the big cab and hi cab, you can buy a 500 and a 250 power too

Just re-mortgage your house and it might be possible.

And hire a small crane to carry them around. Those power amps are heavy!!

That's because of the large output transformers they have, that will give higher intensity current. So... a 250 W JH Power AMp will act almost like a 500 W solid state amp, just the same as an all tube 250 W head does.
So.. tu as besoin d'argent maintenant pour acheter JH stuff Beaucoup d'argent!
