Hi all.I'm new to the forum so thought I'd pop in and say hello.

I usually play my Fender Jazz 4 string but needed a 5 string to save me tuning down for a lot of songs or swapping guitars. I'd heard good things about Warwick 5 strings so went and bought my first Warwick, it's a Streamer Jazzman 5 and I must say I'm really impressed with it although the neck profile will take some getting used to seeing as I'm used to my Jazz.

Anyway's, I thought I'd just pop on here and try to understand a bit more about these wonderful basses. I love the sound of the humbucker on my streamer so my next Warwick might be a $$ 5. Can someone tell me what the neck profile is like on that compared to the FNA Jazzman 5

Welcome brother, you have seen the light now. You will get used to the neck profile in no time. I used to get a sore thumb because I was pressing more than I needed to, because of muscle memory from my previous bass that had a really thin neck. I was worried I will never get used to it, but that's history.
 
Thanks for the reply. I haven't picked up my Fender since buying this Warwick. I've played it quite a bit since getting it, no pain yet but I've still to gig with it. That will be the real test.

First off, welcome aboard!

What year is your JazzMan (last 2 digits of the serial number)? From ~1999 to 2008, Warwick used a 'U' shaped neck. As of 2009, the standard neck is a 'C' shape...

It's 02, I've just noticed the tuners have West Germany stamped on them, what's that all about ?

Hmm... maybe they made a bulk order in advance? I dunno... :P :roll:
 
Hi Purpolaris, welcome to the W family, a Jazzman is a great 'starters bas' :lol: but seriously how long have you got it (i am refering to your phrase of not picking up your Fender)

I've only had it since last week wed, so almost a week :-) I'm trying to get in to 5 string, and winning .

Congrats for your new bass, you will get used to it... To be honest I never got it... for me the most important thing for comfort is the fb radius, and Warwick is perfect. I never noticed that one bass felt better than other because of the neck thickness. Sometimes I even consider thicker necks to be more comfortable, because they are more ergonomic actually. Try to hold a beer bottle normally with two fingers like a bass, the try to hold it the same from the neck of the bottle. How is easier?

The jazzman is a cool bass, you did a great choice :-)

And Warwick is a great choice for a 5er! You will start to see others around you very frustrated of their soft and lifeless B string.

The "made in W Germany is a common thing, we had a large stock of tuners...

Man, that is one sweet lookin bass you got there man! I myself am going from thinner necks on my Ibanez and I really have to agree with Florin on finding the thicker neck more comfortable, even with small hands.

Thanks for that. I'm getting the hang of the thicker neck now so it won't be a problem. The jack socket has the usual (allegedly) Warwick traits to it so I've ordered a Switchcraft one to replace it.
 
Seeing as this is a Warwick forum that will probably be the general consensus :lol:
