I doubt it, unless the coating is an electrical insulator.

As for strings. I got a 2 pack of D'addario 5 string sets for 30 bones, they sound great. For that price you can replace them as oftem as you like. 25 bucks for the 2 pack of 4 string sets.

I live in Denmark and strings are quite expensive here. If ordering from the US I have to place a big order for it to really be worth it and I don't wanna let that amount of money go just for strings... Think I'll try DR's BB... I like their strings alot as it is. Might like their coated ones as well...

Don't like them either. I prefer DR string,but not the coated ones. I like Fat and Hi-Beams...

How are those Hi-Beams? I`m considering to try out those with .120-B string. Seems easier for fast finger-picking.

They are absolutely worth trying. In my experience they stay "crisp" longer, and I've yet to break one. I can't comment on the B-string however, I'm a 4-string guy...

They're great. Also the B-string. My oppinion. I really like DR strings

hell yes Casey, hellllz yes.

Amazing sound from them! Great growl, nice brightness but still rumbles like a motherf*cker in the low registers.
 
Never tried DR strings, but I hear good thngs about them all the time. I've been using D'Addario nickle roundwound for years and I really like them. Just put on some D'Addario half rounds on my Fortress fretless and they sound really good. My Thumb fretless is my main bass and I use nickle roundwoound so I can really cut through a loud mix. D'Addario strings are actually pretty cheap so you can change your strings fairly often. And if you buy enough strings, like I do, they give you swag when you send the packages back. The gig bags are awesome just in case you save enough packages. Cheap and good, it work for me

I think they look great on NT5. As far as tone, clankity, clank! :x These are by far the brightest, most crispy strings I've ever tried. Guage .45 to 125 and I don't uderstand why they sound like that. I thought the coating would cut the highs on the Thumb. I tried them on a passive Fender aerodyne bass and they sounded amazing. I guess the Thumbs bell frets and ebony board were too rich with these strings! I didn't even plug up yet and knew they were not for this bass Imo. There is NOTHING dull about these strings. Maybe when they wear down it will be better but for now my GHS bass boomers will be going back on. DR makes great strings and I'm sure metal guys would love these as is but for me, even the nickel Low Riders were better for mids and GHS brings out the bottom. Long live the Thumb bass!!!

That Thumb looks sooooo gorgeous.................The Bubinga gives the bass a very "workingman's bass" look.................Love it. :wink:

Thanks! It looks "swilrlier" when it's clean but I've been practicing a lot lately and have not found the time. I would love to try EMPs on my Jazzman.
 
i love the black beauties. i have a set of red devils on my rockbass right now, and i'm actually trying to decide whether i want BBs of sunbeams on my corvette.... decisions!
 
BBs would probably sound good on a Vette since it's a bottom heavy bass with no mid control and these strings are very bright. Good balance I'd imagine.
