Just picked this up from a local pawn shop, Its a German 2006 LX streamer, Maple body Ovangkol neck, P/J pickups with active pre amp. I so don't need another bass but like little projects so grabbed this. I managed to talk them down to $375 NZD , That's like $250 USD. Im going to sand it all down to bare wood. should be a fun project. The neck is mint so will only require a light sand. its missing one saddle and the Nut needs attention. Bring on the weekend!!!

Wow thats a steal!

Is it just me or is that a lefty trussrod cover?
 
Yeah the cover was on back wards and it had chopped up credit card under the nut and also more credit card used for one saddle. Spent 4 hours cleaning it last night and also tightened everything up as every screw was loose. Been to the local shop this morning for new nut, saddle and strings. Given it a quick setup and it sounds awesome. Will most likely sand the body back and swap the gold hardware but no rush. The neck is the baseball bat type which kinda works on a 4 string similar to my ltd thumb. Loving the p/j config. So spent some time sanding over the weekend, It is coming along really nice but I missed a few bits so will sand some more this week. Im waiting for a new black bridge and neck screws to arrive and I also had an issue pulling the pre amp board out. I was in a bad mood and it was not coming out easy so I got a screw driver and snapped the circuit board in half so its fuked! ha ha. Dam it! I have ordered a Noll pre amp to replace it as I really like the Noll stuff and have one in my Thumb 6. I wil just go with the basic 2 band which was in there. I should learn to leave stuff along when im tired and a bit ♣♣♣♣ty ha ha

Can you give us a close up of the grain?

P.S.: I was in the same mood when I drove the truss rod out of the back of the neck of my Thumb NT5. Lesson learned.
 
That's great bargain! in good nick they go for literally a thousand bucks more than that!
 
I bought a dirt cheap Fortress, it has a blue oil finish and I'm thinking of sanding it of. How easy is that?Is the oil deep in the wood or just on the surface like paint?

What kind of sand paper did you use? Thanks!
 
Aaaahhh shhhhhittt man I wanted that for when I go to NZ :p

I was not totally happy with the finish as it was a bit rushed. I'm in the process of a re sand. Il post grain pics up once done.

Was I just started with 100grit then worked my way up to 400 grit then 0000 steel wool. After I put the sanding finisher on I noticed a few bits I had missed and you could still see red. (In some of the end grains) so I have pulled apart and have re started the whole process. The stain is easy on the main front and back but a bit of a mission in the fiddley areas . I should have it sorted by the end of the week. So far I have spent around 5 hours sanding by hand. It took about an hour to get the gloss finish off with a heat gun.
 
After another 3 hours of sanding. Just waiting for a. Black bridge and a new noll pre amp and I'm good to go. I'm also thinking about putting emg pickups in as iv never had emg before. What are people's thoughts on emg in warwicks?

I played Rex Brown's white Streamer with EMG X P/J and it sounded really ♣♣♣♣ing raw and ballsy. I'd have them.

looks very nice

don't water the body as residues from the stain will come out - and your will be back to sanding again.
