Alrighty... I'm doing a couple new mods all involving wood work... I'm going to attempt to make a wooden truss rod cover, knobs... and maybe even get crazy enough for an electronics cover... Nowthe question is what wood to use? ovangkol is hard to find... my bass is ovangkol and wenge... so use the poll above and give me some ideas :P

So far I'm leaning toward wenge.
 
Most logical wood is indeed Ovangkol, since your body is entirely Ovangkol..................It doesn't make sense, colour wise, to go for Bubinga or Wenge................So I'd say Macassar Ebony; you really need the Macassar, otherwise you won't see properly that it actually is a wooden part (with the regular Ebony).............. 8)

Yeah, I'm checking out some of the macassar on ebay and I figure I'll problaby go with that. I think wenge would look good... But that may be a bit overkill on the brown. Plus most of this macassar looks to be pretty striped & Should add some character to my bass... Now hopefully I can make all these parts without too much hassle :P
 
Nevermind! I got lucky and found some ovangkol on ebay... some 1/4" thick peices of it... I figure for just the trussrod covers it doesnt have to be all that thick... I got 3 peices of it and am also going to make the electronics cavity... so I figure I can double up some peices and reinforce the backings of it with some fiberglass resin... leaving the top to be raw oil finish... Should look awesome when I'm done... The wood is almost the same type of grain as my bass :)

BTW - ovangkol is also known as shedua... just incase you wanted to know :)
 
And heres a picture of one of the cuts... I will have 3 coming in the mail, So it will be a surprise on the wood grain... I like surprises :)
