New Hellborg clips

Hello guys.
This is the same bass, same settings, recorded with the hellborg preamp with EQ OFF (!!!), and also recorded directly in the soundcard. The sound card is not a very good one, so imagine that in a professional studio, we will have a much bigger difference!
The bass is my XBass, btw :-)

The hellborg gave it quite some presence. I'd like to hear some with the EQ on... it seems like a LOT of money to pay for a slightly better sound.

Man, this is a poor soundcard, which is already a bit muddy, and the bass is alone. In real life (studio or live) the difference is bigger,
And the difference is between "to be or not to be..." in the mix, believe me.
You are looking for a tonal difference, which is none, the hellborg is transparent. I gave you a quality difference, which is another thing.
These sounclips are like a paradox to me, I would expect in a way to have some coloration from the preamp, but to feel some harmonics loss, because there are some extra circuits in the signal path.
What I got was a better, and fuller sound with the preamp, and a dead lifeless sound without the preamp. It is amazing! Of course, with the eq on, you will have many ways to shape the sound, the eq section was described as "the most musical EQ" by some... But this is not that important to me... In a band with 4 keyboards, computer, 3 backing vocals, loud drums, and a very loud baritone vocal, the battle is in sound pressure and harmonics. For the type of sound, lets say I chose my bass very carefully ;-)

This is not a "slightly better sound" mate!

I really don't like the JH basses sound...I would much prefer a thumb, but thats just my two cents :wink:

Seriously Flo.Nice chops mate.As for tone,it's difficult to get excited when listening through a PC with pissy little speakers.
The proof is in the band/mix/ears/back passage. :wink:
 
:shock: I can only imagine how beautifull it sounds live!!!And man that bass is something too!!!
