New and vampyre?

Hi at all,
I'm new here and want to ask some more experienced bass players for help :wink: I want to start bass playing now and at the moment I'm searching for the right bass and combo - then I found this homepage and at the first look I loved the vampyre! :twisted:
But I don't know very much about basses and perhaps one of you could say what he think of this bass and if it's OK to start playing with this bass or not - perhaps you even have another bass i should look for :D
 
If it's your first bass I would recommend a Vampyre ROCKBASS... If you like the LOOKS of it.. Otherwise a Corvette of any kind is a Super great bass for beginners..
 
Agree totally especially if you buy a Corvette, you get the tonal character, a very well built bass and plenty of bass for the money

I've got a Corvette Rockbass - it's great value and more than you could want as a beginner. It'll also do as a 2nd bass if you move onward and upward

However, if you really fancy the looks of the Vampyre, go for it. Looks are important... the best basses are the ones you want to pick up and play... looks, playability and tone all play a part

I spent a lot of money buying and selling stuff before I discovered Warwick... so be honest with yourself

DP,your on the right track to getting a good bass when your looking at warwick.Go with what makes you happy & have a great time,your already cool coz your the bass player :wink: The warwick hanging off you just confirms it.

The Vampyre might be a bit heavy to play in the beginning. I`ve played for 7-8 years, and still I had to adjust a bit, but you get back i tenfolds. :twisted:

As a beginner, I wouldn`t buy such an expensive bass for a starter, but rather go for a Yamaha, or used Warwick. You should also check out Washburn Taurus basses. They actually won a "superior construction award" in Bassplayer Magazine ahead of warwick, and thats just 600$ for a neckthrough.
 
The Vampyre Bass is a very interesting instrument. The pickup setup and electronics allow for a wide variety of sound. The Rockbass version is way different in sound. For a beginner I would suggest getting yourself a Corvette or a Thumb Bolt-On. You would get the Warwick punch and growl that everyone talks about and at the same time it would be a bass that you would be able to play further along in your career. The Vampyre is a bass with attitude and I have to admit that I couldn't see myself playing it on a jazz gig for example (just for the looks). And the Corvette is a bass that would suit most situations with ease and will not let you down. I have to warn you though, once you get into the Warwick sound, it's VERY HARD to get out :P.

I checked out the washburn site recently & i remember seeing in the forum there that some owners complained of dreadful quality control from the factory in vietnam ( i think thats right right).one complaint was being sold a new bass with very sharp frets that cut into fingers on the first play.But they seemd quite happy with them after a trip to have the frets finished properly & any other things that werent quite right with their basses.Anyway bro,just thought i'd share that with ya's. :wink:

Haha, I checked the Washburn forum. I was many "problem"-posts there, and some very non-serious posts(ers). The Taurus is on it`s way out of their line, as I understand, since it`s so cheap.

Well, what the heck. I still think the Vampyre might be a bit expensive for a starter, unless you know that this is what you`ll do for the next 10-15-20 years, or has A LOT of money to spend.
If not, as said, Yamaha has much to offer in their RBX-line, and Ibanez and their SGR.
 
This forum makes most of the others look like crap i think.It's the people that make a good forum & this one has some very decent people indeed,if eric cartman posted here most of his posts would read,"I love you guys". :lol: But seriously,can you imagine taking delivery of a new bass with razor blades for frets?regardless of the cost or make that sort of thing is downright inexcusable & washburn have been building instruments for a very long time,you think that sorta thing would be sorted by now.
