OMFG lovely collection there and no you're still a player not a collector. Each one of them has its own purpose as you will find the 4 and 5 string versions sound quite different (although ofcourse they do share some thumb specific characteristics).

Feel across the three THumbs

First of all, congrats on the new addition. I have a question for you. I've brought it up a few times now how I like the single piece Schaller more than the current two-piece bridges more for the feel of the strings. I just wanted to ask you if you notice a difference in your right hand technique and feel when going from the two-piece to the one-piece and vice versa.

good question. Give me a week or so and I'll let you know. I need to have it properly set up. Current strings need replacing and I'll get my Luthier to get everything just right ...

In my book it is not a collection until you start to have many basses of the same kind, I mean, at the moment you only have one 4 string fretted, one 5 string fretted, and one 4 string fretless. OTOH, maybe your wife/girlfriend/significant other already thinks that you do have a big collection.

Hey Cliff - coming back to your question...

Not sure I could say it was due to the single piece bridge or not, but it definitley does feel different to play than both the 88's. I play closer to the freboard though so I don;t it would contribute much.

All 3 carry very different and diverse sound - but the 87 really is punchy!

Fretless is still my fav too Emanew... Like butter.

How much would you pay for one of these? THere is one in a music shop nearby and I and debating on purchasing it. BUt the bridge has some rust on it as do the tuners and knobs. But it plays and sounds amazing. I believe it is about 1200.

If the bridge and tuners has rust on them I would never pay 1200 euro's.. Maybe 800 is more reasonable? It's also how much you would prepare to pay for it. The bridge and tuners are replaceable with parts in the warwick online shop. ( I think )

1200 for an amazing bass sounds good to me

Hey those are sick! I have a 91 fretless thumb 5 that I just put a Bartolini pre in with the MEC pups and it kills! I would really like to know how the EMGs sound and if the basses all have the same preamp/pickup setup. Do your basses have EMG preamps as well or are they old MEC preamps?

I believe they are all MEC pre amps. But have EMG pups.

That 87 Thumb has an EMG Preamp.

Is the output signal of your thumb 88 with EMG the same like the signal of new thumb with MEC? Or the signal is lower?
