Hey guys, this isn't one of those "what should I do" threads. It's just that there's a Katana nt, natural in mint condition over here for $799 out the door.
I don't NEED another bass but for that price it seems like a good investment in a quality instrument. The thing is that the Katana is IMHO one of the best sounding basses but I don't care for the body style. So, like my Thumb bass, may only get out of the case once in a while. Financially, I could do it or pay off a credit card. I think I know what I'm going to end up doing but would still like to know, what would YOU do?
 
Is that the one at GC, bro?
 
Right now I'm saving up for something big, but if I wasn't doing that I'd hit it faster than I would hit Scarlett Johansson.

Yeah, on rt22 Springfield, NJ. I owned one (maybe even that one) before but for the $2400 they wanted at the time, I chose the Thumb for $1750.
Have you seen this one? It's visually mint. I played it and it's fine but I didn't have my truss-rod tool to check for adjust ability.

Lol! mmmm Scarlet!:twisted: I don't really need it but damn! It was right next to the new "W-Rockbasses" at the same price! The Katana is too good for that.

I your household economy/wife/significant other allows it, I'd say go for it!

I don't need a custom bass either, but I sure as hell want one! It's been my dream since I started playing, and now I've found the builder who will make that dream come true, and he's giving me an extra good deal as well as shorter build time when I finally order :d
 
Depends on how bad your credit card debt is. If it's manageable I'd say go for it. If the credit card really should get paid off, then suck it up and do it.

Only you really know which is best.

Now I have to see if Lex is moving on it. I've been going up there hoping it's gone and everytime it's still there. If it's there next time I go, I'll move on it.

Hey Herb, I'm going to see about it today. If it's still there and the truss-rod is ok, I'll put it on lay away so I can still be financially flexible.;)
 
Katanas are monsters!!!! DO IT!!! I almost bought a used one at my local GC for $1099. If it was $799 I would have bought it without thinking twice. You might even be able to haggle that price a little. $25 or $50. Maybe.....

Taking your actual question quite literally, I do
know for certain what I'd do, will do again, and
have done, waaaaay too many times already ...
ad nauseum:

Acoarst I'd snag it ! I didn't need one more
fretted 4-string when I bought my FNA 2004LE,
nor my USA P-Deluxe, nor my StingRay 30th
Anniversary .... and I didn't need another EUB
but I got a Carruthers on the way ....

My only word of caution is that in these hard
times, waaaaay too much cool schidt is always
popping up dirt cheap .... so if your finances
won't cover another great find AFTER this one,
do ask yourself how much a Katana really spins
your crank, and how patient you can be about
watching and waiting for what else turns up.

But, if $800 is not earth shaking to you, then
just bag the friggin thing !​

I'd say go for it Gerry.... becuase while reading your posts, I 'felt' that deep down inside you already made the decision to do it...

Well, since this post started, the Katana has been picked up, returned and is now on lay away again (not by me). I put my phone # on the counter so they can call me if she comes back. Curious thing is, they also had a bolt on Ken Smith for $999.00! That means, the store bought these basses from people for about 2-3 hundred USD. I know we are in an economic pinch right now but how bad would things have to be for you to sell your bass for that little? I hope things NEVER get that bad for any of us here.
Anywayz, I did snag a great little combo amp. It's an Ampeg porta Bass 112. That's 250 watts into a 12 inch speaker with adjustable horn. I grabbed it for $279.00 and I really dig it but have no info on it. I don't think Ampeg still makes it and I can't find info or a picture on line anywhere. So, if any of my most knowledgeable bass brothers here can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.
