Need some help with a decision

Well well....
As it is written on the thread, I can't decide which bass to use for standard tuning and lower tuning... I have a dolphin SN and a Thumb BO both 5 strings..

My bands are these :

2 steps down tuning + drop C on some tracks

Apart from the 2 bands the instrument which will have standard tuning will be also used as an all-around instrument for other bands/jobs etc

So I would like to have some ideas and thoughts on that about what I should finally decide.....
 
Our Constitutionalist is right. The Thumb is perfect for low tuningz.
 
I would down-tune the Thumb and keep the LOLpin standard.

But anyway, I think you'll be fine either way. Both of the basses have pickup(s) right next to bridge.
 
I think the Thumb will come through clearer in the sub lows. The Dolphin's strength sits entirely in the midrange, you do not want to lose this feature by downtuning.

I was leaning on the same thing you proposed about thumb being good in lower tunings

Mids will be handy with maintaining definition.
 
I found my lolphin works best with lighter strings, the mids sing out and you can be more nuanced with your playing in standard tunings with the phin. On the other hand thumb BO sound great dropped, you can get a really defined burpy kinda tone from them. I never really got my phin to really sound that good dropping it more than half a step. might be the light strings though.
 
Both of them will sound great with a low tuning. The dolphin is a versatile bass, but it is the bridge double pickup (similar to thumb's) that is making it great for dowtunigs IMHO. So the thumb bass character is what you need :-) Use the thumb, ot the dolphin with the bridge pickup only.

so you propose to have the thumb in standard?
 
Yeah. Kinda what everyone in this thread has been saying Chris. ;)
 
Chris, I am saying actually that they are equally good, so use the one you like :-)

If you want to keep definition when tuning down I'll take the bass that has the more mids... Being tuned in D in one of the band I'm in and in C in the other, I found the bass that has the best definition gives the better result downtuned to C...
 
I cant offer any advice about your tuning, but WOW, your bands sound awesome !
