Need bass help!!

So, I was going through my first thorough polishing of my Thmb 5 string, and I found some dents on the edge of the fretboard that I didnt see before. I figure if they dont hurt playability, then I sholdnt worry about them. However, I looked at the nut and noticed that it looked strange. I feel like it is missing a part on both ends. I feel like there shold be a piece sticking up on either end here. It looks like a piece connect below had snapped off, but I cant be sure. Am I correct? And if so, is it going to hurt playability of my bass? (sorry its a blurry pic, its the best I could do, bt its clear enough I think)





My last Warwick I bought, so I didnt notice anything strange. Could someone clue me is as to whether I shold worry about this piece or not?

hey mate,it looks like your nut has broken tabs on it's base.This subject has been covered in this forum before,it sometimes happens during re-stringing.The nuts very brittle & the tabs are easily snapped off unfortunatly.You can get a new nut & base from your local warwick distributor,its a pretty easy job to change them as theyre basically superglued on,i think.Some people just live with broken tabs coz the strings hold it all together nicely.

so it seems that I can live with it for now then. bought used for under half the price of new? I think I can deal with some imperfections like a couple dings on the G side of the fretboard. Plus, Ive got 30 days to return it if I am not pleased, so we will see if perhaps a better deal pops up in the meantime, haha.

I suggest you replace the JAN II with a new one. If you are within the US contact Dana B. Goods for pricing on a replacement part and if you are outside the USA please contact you country's Warwick distributor.

Hi BA2 - there's loads of posts on this site about this problem - it's happened to me. Be assured, a replacement JAN2 costs next to nothing (buy 2 and have 1 spare) - and it really is easy to replace - just a couple of drops of superglue! Even I could do it!

I replaced the nut on my Fretless 'Vette a few weeks ago and it is very easy to do. Contact Dana B. Goods for a new Just-A-Nut II and they'll make it happen.
