Neck Options Question

I'm thinking of ordering a Custom Shop Streamer Stage 1. The standard 4-string model has a 3-piece Maple neck with Ekanga veneers seperating the Maple laminates. (see image below)

If I was to opt for an alternative neck wood, for example Ovangkol, would the neck be exactly the same, but with Ovangkol replacing the Maple - ie. a 3-piece Ovangkol neck seperated by Ekanga veneers... ?

Would I have to pay extra for the Ekanga veneers, or would they be there by default as they are part of the basic model?

That's a good question. :-) I believe ekanga is only used on maple necks just for cosmetic reasons. I guess the only way to be sure is to ask the custom shop, visit Warwick Basses Amps & Rock&Roll and look for the custom shop inquiries form. Best of luck.
 
The thumb NT comes with an Ovangkol neck and Ekanga veneer stripes.

They are default. And I think you can switch them to maple, to be lighter :-)
 
Do veneers really have an influence on sound?

I mean is there a difference in current SSI stock models compared to those 90's SSI with wenge stringers?
 
I´m gonna say that veneers have no, or almost no influence on the sound. I think this is a matther of wood mass, and those veneers are like <5% of the total mass of the neck wood. Maybe I´m wrong, but I guess this is just a matter of aesthetics and neck stability.
 
I think Nacho is right. On the other hand, everything has an influence... But then again, the difference in mass can have a bigger impact than the laminations :)
