It's New Amp Day over here!

One of our largest music chains, Allans Billy Hyde music has gone into receivership here and is having a massive closing down sale.

That's a really sad thing for all concerned, and I feel for all of the employees affected :(, but I could not resist visiting to check out what's left. Everything is now 60-80% of the original price; they're even selling off all of the shop fittings in each store!

I had my eye on a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. Already being a Shuttle 3.0 owner and loving it I thought it would be a very nice catch. With a tube preamp evidently it sounds great - even better than the Shuttle 3.0. There was one left in the city store which I was considering at 50% off... but I missed out on it. When I went to check it out yesterday, someone had grabbed it!

But, later on I learned from my friends at the OzBass forum that the Kew store still had one left! Additionally, they had raised the discount to 60% on amps!

So, I waited outside their door this morning for them to open, and grabbed it for $379!!! :eek:

It's a nice brand new one in the box - when I left they actually still had another two left; one new and one floor model, so another couple of lucky bass players are going to be very happy! The price is madness! Over here the RRP is $1299, and the street price is about $950, so $379 is amazing!

I also picked up a few nice looking Klotz instrument cables at $12 each, which is super cheap too!

Poor ol alans..at least here in adelaide John reynolds is buying back a billy hyde store and keeping the palce running with the same staff.
But on the bargains side my missus is heading to town to day and checking if the Markbass 2x10 that has been sitting on their floor for ages is still there.......60% would seal the deal for me, last time i went there it was at 20% off, more expensive than i have been quited by another shop.
 
The 9.0's sell in the states for $450-500 used. I had one as a backup. It worked well, but just didn't have all the tone shaping options I wanted, so I sold it.
 
Thanks guys! I've been playing it tonight... it sounds super cool! Very similar tonally to the Shuttle 3.0 as expected. The tube pre doesn't sound hugely different to the Shuttle 3.0's solid state pre. Both sound REALLY nice and obviously come from the same school :D I think that's testament to just how good the Shuttle 3.0 actually sounds to keep up with it's big brother in the tone department.

The EQ is pretty neat, the semi parametric mids work really well and you can dial in a whole bunch of tones. Very versatile, and sounds fantastic flat! For a micro head it sounds huge! Big and deep! Heck, it sounds huge for any head, not just a micro ;)

And loud? Whoa! The 3.0 is already loud enough, and the 6.0 is crazy. These are BIG watts!

I've never felt truly GASsless in the amp department, but I have to say I could be getting rather close!

Been playing it a bit more over the last day and a bit, and it's getting pretty close to knocking off my Little Mark Tube as my favourite head of all time.

Whilst there's no doubt that the Suttle 6.0 and 3.0 come from the same school, after playing with them both side by side into their own WCA211 Pro cab over the couple of days, the tube preamp of the Shuttle 6.0 really shines! The highs are less glassy (than the Shuttle 3.0), and it's a whole lot warmer (less scooped). I love the way you can drive the input gain to get a little sweet tube saturation and still control the preamp volume for the same overall level.

The bottom on the Shuttle 6.0 is significantly fuller than the 3.0 too. With the 3.0's L.F. Boost engaged it gets close to the 6.0 flat, but still not as full.

I can get really nice tones with the 3.0 with some knob tweaking, but the 6.0 just sounds dreamy out-of-the-box.

Congrats! I've tried the Shuttle 6.0 sometime ago and really fell in love with it, talk about GAS!
