Hi guys

I have been considering getting a fretted $$ to compliment my fretless but couldn't decide what to do for a while. I fancied either another ovangkol body that would match up with the fretless or something entirely different as a sort of opposite. I had considered another custom shop order but prices seem to have gone up quite a bit lately, then I noticed a couple of special editions out there.

In the UK there seemed to be an ovangkol $$ special and it was even being sold at extremely good prices but I wasn't 100% convinced because from the pics I had seen the ovangkol looked very different to my bass so it defeated the object. I also missed out on a very beautiful dirty blonde $$ on sale in the bass centre in London (congrats as I believe it was another member here who got her).

In the end I decided to go with a completely different choice and I have got one of the Zebrano special editions from Germany and I am soooooo glad I made this choice as the bass is just a dream. It arrived yesterday and apart from taking a bit of time out to take some pics and have a few drinks to celebrate last night I have been playing just about non stop.

Here are a couple of pics for now and I will try and post a few more later showing the two $$s together.

WOW!!! That zebrano one is so exotic looking. I love it! It looks great with that lighter colored fretboard as well. Nice!

Yes I have always liked the Zebrano wood I have to admit. When I first got the fretlles it was commented on that the ovangkol looked very zebrano like and I was originally hoping to get a zebrano that would have looked similar but I am actually much happier now that the zebrano does look so different and tes I agree, very exotic.

Sound wise, so far the zebrano has a slightly brighter tone to the ovangkol when everything is matched up the same with Pups although the newer strings will probably be contributing to this a lot.

Weirdly I am already finding the fretted $$ easier to play than the fretted thumb in terms of physically moving around but I have been playing the fretless $$ a lot more than the thumb recently so this may be a factor.

Still loving them all mind you.

What a beautiful instrument, especially the closer shots. It reminds me of a Streamer $$ with a really vivid grain I had seen here some time ago.
Perhaps the big humbuckers contribute to the aesthetic result. Congrats and have a great time playing your bass.

That's one of the nicest pieces of zebrano I've seen! Definitely exotic looking! You should also post your pics in the Corvette Club as well. You deserve to be a member!
