MY HB update

Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well. Just thought I would drop in with a Hellborg update;). Well, she's still going strong and has been quite reliable. Every time I take it out, I learn something new about it. Last night, I took the casters off of the LC, putting it in direct contact with the wooden stage floor and :eek:BOOOM! Punch for days. So much that I could have left it off of the floor and still been fine but it's good to know it's there.
Anyway, covers and casters are holding up really well in those rough parking lots, tiled floors and even the NYC streets (thanks again Kevin). Most times, I'm the only one not going through the band's p.a. and it still works out fine. I usually still have to turn down. I'm doing reggae at volume and the HB doesn't break a sweat. On those 3 hour gigs in hot clubs, I'm glad I put the extra effort into bringing this rig. Something about it just says "play your bass how you want, I got you!"

Just to let you know, I am not jealous AT ALL of either rig or gig.

Killer, Gerry. I've used my HB pre on gigs before but haven't had a chance to use the cabs. Touring this summer and fall though, so the whole rig will get plenty of use.

We are using the HB pre for recording Jake's new album, though. He's been using it for a lot of the clients that he's recording for and loves it.
 
Thanks for the love guys! Rob, I feel the same about your hood. I really should travel more. Anyway, I made it seem more glamorous than it really was ;) There is something special about playing in the city, even if it's only for about 100 people. Especially when there's an all male review at the club next door, streets are packed and women are spilling into our gig:). I'm diggin the NYC Irish vibe. I'm getting around to replacing my input jack on the PN3 and hope to be back playing it soon.
Shaft, I'm interested to hear your take on the whole rig when you've used it a bit and what you settle on in your signal chain.
Well, I guess I'll browse a while and see what you all have been up to and what's new from Warwick.

That's exactly my feeling. With Hellborg I can make the sound I am comfortable with, knowing that it will punch in front anyway...
 
I am still hoping for the Hellborg rig I missed last year to pop up for sale here again. If it does, I won't hesitate this time.

The price I missed was like 1300 € for pre, stereo power and club cab...
 
The price of new HB gear has gone up since I put my used kit together. Actually, I would rather not have to use it out anymore, except for special gigs. I'm really hoping the new 1K watt Warwick amp can perform as well. I would put it together with a W410 cab or my Berg HT210 and see how it goes. I'm very careful with my HB gear since I can't afford to replace it and it takes me extra long to pack and unpack, double and triple checking everything. Am i the only one that gets nervous when I see the sound guy nosing around the back of my amp case? Lol
 
I've made a (imo) good deal here on the forum! Pre&LC. Thx Schlobodan. Keep your eyes open, it's really a nice piece of gear!
Played 2 gigs 'til now, and I only got great comments on it.

I hear you Gerry, but just remember that Hellborg stuff is made to stand up to pro touring. Unless it gets knocked over it'll be fine (and would probably still be fine anyway).

My HB pre is in a non-shockproof road case, but I'm about to get a shockproof case for it. Once that is done, I shall worry about it no longer.
 
Ahh, to be young and strong! I was gonna go the shock proof rack route until I calculated the weight. My 6ru is at 25+lbs empty. Add a power section, pre and power conditioner and I'm at 100lbs easy. I'm at about 70lbs in a SKB case now and it makes a world of difference when lifting it on to the cabs. I'm gonna keep my eye out for a BC for one less trip to the car. You guys are making it harder to find the deals!
 
I have my power amp in a separate rack.. no way I'm combining all that in one. WAY too heavy..
 
Hey guys. I'm just checking in after my latest gig with the Hellborg. It was supposed to be an outdoor, Halloween gig but cold weather forced us inside. The home was large and had great acoustics. I decided to use just the Lo cab and for once, it turned out to have been a good decision. The Club cab is a great cab but too bright for what I do without bi amping. I need 2 Lo cabs in my life! This cab is an outstanding small gig stand alone. Until last night, i never used it alone. The slight sterile/harsh tone I kept trying to warm up or dial out was all from the Cc. Again, the Cc is fantastic with my Pnut bass but I'm favoring an old school (Fender-ish?) vibe for now and my jazz is perfect with the Lc. No Sabd di, just HB eq.
I was a little freaked out when i turned on the pre and two more lights flickered and went out right in front of me! Didn't affect anything but i was nervous. Looks kind of ghetto now but I'm thinking, the last two lights will go out soon and it'll at least look uniform again. I will say that it held it's own, even with the bass knob at 3:00 and low mid not far behind. Notes on the low B had good clarity and force with no 15in driver flubber. I'm surprised that I prefer it to my trusty Berg 2x10. People seem to want to dance when the bass notes move through them instead of just hearing them.
Anyway, I'm still learning about my gear while improving as a musician. My Pnut bass is fully functional, freshly waxed and sleeping in it's Rock case until i feel the itch for a modern electric.
Don't sell your gear...unless you're selling me your SS1!
