Must be getting old - need something loud but lightweight

Current rig is an Eden WT330 with Eden D410T head which is magic with my Warwick SSII 5 String. But...every time I have to take it out to the car, I get that sinking feeling. The cab is a whopping 90lbs (40Kilos), the wheels broke off long ago, and my back is feeling the strain.

I tried out a PJB Suitcase and 4B Extension cab last weekend - lovely sound (a bit 'dark') but didn't quite have the guts of the Eden at full tilt (I have to compete with a couple of loud guitarists), so I'm not convinced that it is completely right for me.

So, fellow forum-ers, I would be happy to absorb your suggestions for what your recommendations would be. Price point is about 1KGBP but might go a little higher if required. Anyone any experience to share on Mark Bass, TC Electronics?

Hey man! The Warwick WCA210 extension cab would definately be worth having a look at. Its 300watt (8 ohms) and, because its actually an extension cab, it doesn't weigh a ton either. I was previously using mine with a Profet head, and now use it with a Marshall MB450.

It regularly goes up against an 8ohm 400 watt Marshall Mode 4 guitar rig (if you don't know what that is, just think 'big') with another 150watt Crate stack and a full drum kit, and it never gets cranked above volume 7 during practice. When the rigs all plugged through a PA, it barely goes above 4 or 5. Admittedly, it does look a bit puny on stage next to the big amps, but it does the job volume wise, and i can lift and shift it without the aid of several other men!!

EDIT: If you look closely at my Avatar pic i think you can just about see the amp in the background - thats how small it is!

EDIT 2: If you are looking to change your entire system (new head as well) I would think the WCA211 would go very well with the 500watt warwick heads (Tubepath or Extreme), as long as you didn't crank the heads too high, and the whole rig would just about come in under your target of £1000, depending on which head you went for.

I tried a lot of Markbass amps, and they're pretty much all great. Very dynamic and precise

TC Electronics hav eto my taste a little too neutral sound, but some actually like it better that way.
 
At this moment you can get an awful lot of lightweight basscabs and heads of Markbass, Orange, Eden, SWR, PJB, EBS, Ashdown ... Almost all brands use Neodym speakers and all brands come with both big tube heads and small ones.

I have the Ashdown Little Giant as back up. 300W (there's also a 1000W version), better sounding than the MAG300 (it's cleaner, more honest), small (it fits in my Rockbag gigbag!) and ugly (*). But a nice little amp. It's always with me as back up for the Hiwatt.

(*) Mark Gooday of Ashdown had to laugh when I told him it needed an award for ugliest amp ever:) He agreed:)
 
Thanks all for your responses thus far. This trick, I guess, is that I can't try out many of these option before buying so I will be making a blind (or should that be deaf?) purchase - there's not a great deal of choice in Edinburgh for some of these brands (Take the purchase of my SSII for example - had to get it from my nearest dealer in Preston, England - that's a foreign country!!!)

I suppose there is a different way I could progress rather than replacing my whole rig - that is to keep the WT330 head (de-rack it and use a gig back instead) and look for a more lightweight cab....although the idea of a combo with an extension cab is probably a more flexible option.

Decisions, decisions...
 
I have two lightweight heads... The Little Mark Tube from MarkBass, and an Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0.

I'm torn between them - I love them both. At a pinch I'd take the MarkBass. The Genz Benz is a little lighter, but they both weigh nothing compared to a big head so it doesn't matter.

Both have GREAT tone - the LM Tube @ 500w is louder and also has more flexibility in it's tone department, but I love the simplicity of the Genz Benz... it's hard to get a bad tone out of it.

I use them both with my Warwick WCA 211 and 411 Pro cabs. Either one, the other or both cabs sound great and huge with these heads.

One of these heads and the 211 cab makes a great sounding, lightweight easy to move package.
 
i was just looking at the ibanez promethean amp on line it looks pretty cool i have always been happy with iv'e been had bass's just never tried there amps.i like the idea of a small loud combo or a micro head and a light weight cab to go with it i don't like lugging around heavy gear anymore.
 
The only piece gear I don't care about the weight is my Streamer. I'm thinking to keep also my Yorkville BC 115 cab, it has only 25 kg and sounds great, with a nice touch of vintage. I still not decided about a head...the micro heads sounds thin in my opinion.
 
I use a Roland D-Bass 210. It's nice and light and has a great sound. You can get an extension cab for it if required.

Mate I hope you're not letting youtube sounds be the judge.
I swear that I've heard some of these micro amps sound as warm,if not more so,than some vintage type all tube heads.
 
you can never let what you hear on youtube be what you go by i say you have to hear it for your self and that way you can play with the amp and see if it gives you a sound you like.
 
I've heard that the Sansamp Tech 21 Landmark 300 Bass head is really light and very, very loud.
 
Well folks thanks again for all your input...in the end I went for the PJB Suitcase & 4B extension cab (now in my updated avatar!).
Incidentally, I tried out the TC electronics 450 combo at the same time - who would have thought you could get soooo many bad sounds from one amp?
I'm a happy bunny with the PJB and, for larger gigs, I'm DI'd out of the amp into the PA anyway.
 
Keep that amp head

check out the Bergantino AE line of cabs
or see if you can find the old Series 1 of Epifani UL410 - 58 lb. wonder; the new ones are a bit heavier.

Well, I just love my RH450. This song, "" was recorded directly from it, and, for my taste, is pretty decent...

Yeah,unfortunatly, there arent many people that have them, or have tried them.
I've seen them once, at Hydes.But they're no longer carrying Warwick.
Shame, coz they're really great.

I've seen them a few times on ebay, thought about it, but got out bidded for them. (Ish can only get Warwick amps and basses through Ebay/internet...)
