Modifying Infinity

Hi, dont know if this is the right forum, im considering either a few modifications to my warwick infinity, or alternatively selling and as such ive posted it in the second hand gear forum.

With reguards to the modifications im considering upgrading the preamp, are there any anyone would recomend? im thinking the aguilar obp-3

Along with this im wondering is it possible to get a warwick pieze bridge from somewere and to install it in the infinity?

Also what options are available for pickupo tapping the existing pickups, like what is done to the twin j pickups in the new streamer LX LTD 2008

Finally does anyone else have any other suggestions with reguards to modifications and is there anyway to achieve a rickenbacker 4003 type sound from the bass?

I personaly wouldn't own a real Rick cuz it always speaks Rick :-/

But on some tunes I do go for that Sir Paul voice, and I get it via an
Audere Z3 at the brightest "Z" and with the bass rolled off. It has very
rich midtones, not all thin and nasal, and not "glassy" or shimmering.

Of course your bass has a different PU in a different location but there
is some similarity: Mine is an all maple, thin hollow body. I definitely
prefer "my" Rick tone over a real Rick. I'm not using the black strings
shown below. It has a fully broken-in set of TI Jazz Flats. YMMV.

hi, thanks for your reply, im just looking into the Audere pre amps and the Z function definitely sounds interesting, could you or anyone else offer me an evaluation of the tone it produces and how does it compare to other preamps please

Do you WANT your infinity to sound like a Rickenbacker?

If you want the Rickenbacker sound, get a Rickenbacker. A beatiful semi-hollow infinity will give you a boutique tone, shapable for just about anything. But you can't make poo look like gold, or in this case, gold look like poo.

+1 to what Benjamin said. Don't mess with your Infinity just to try and get a Rick sound. It will never happen with that bass.

For preamp suggestions, the OBP-3 would be a great choice. I like that preamp a lot. I put a John East preamp in my Infinity, and it sounds pretty good. It gives a lot of control over your tone. I prefer the Audere (put it in a 'Vette and replaced the stock Warwick pickups with some Nordy's... sounds amazing!), but at the time I did the replacement Audere advised me not to use active pups with their preamp as the preamp doesn't support them well.

My only recommendation is don't do any mods to the Infinity unless you know what it is you want to achieve. That could result in damage or make it undesirable if you want to sell it later.
