MM position in FNA 5 and FNA jazzman 5

Hello, this is my first post (sorry for my bad english).

Is the MM pickup in the same position in FNA 5 and FNA jazzman 5 ?

I notice that is not tha same in the 4 string version.









May someone helpme?

That's a good question. Unfortunately I can't see your pics on the computer I'm using, and both models are discontinued so it's tougher to find good info on them, but I believe the answer is yes. Newer versions of the 5-string $$ basses also use the 'closer to the bridge' configuration...
 
it would seem to be so. Look at the volume knob as a point of reference, the areas they are in seem to match very well
 
If you use the volume knob as a reference,
you'll see that the p'up on the five string,
is actually lined with the top "row" of "dots."

Whereas the four string, is actually in line
with the middle of the p'up. (In between the
"rows" of "dots.")

I would think that one is maybe 3.5" (4) and
the other (5) is more like 2.75-3".

Most likely done to promote more lows in the
four string version for lacking the b string that
the five has.

Or, perhaps even because of the lack thereof
a second pickup position too.

Hey Contegeorge,

Yes, it is true, and it is normal. The B string needs more articulation to be usable. If you check Music Man stingray basses, they are the same
 
On a four strings the MM pickup is on the same spot as a regular Stingray bass.
On a five strings the MM pickup is closer to the bridge than on a regular Stingray bass.
 
Have you checked stingray 4 and 5? They are not placed the same...
 
Which model is the round pickgaurd & which is the tear drop shaped guard?
 
Both are String Rays.

The Sting Ray 5 has the same preamp as the Sterling.

Weird, I know, I don't get it either. I'm sure it's something
to do with that B string though.

Is about the tone of the B string. If, on the 5st model the pickup would be in same place as on the 4st model the B string would probably be not usable, because of the lack of articulation ;).
 
I'm lost! by articulation do you mean actual physical movement of the string, or some audible quality having to do with the harmonics at a particular location on the B string?

Also - those two sting rays posted above by Tyler...um, if the pickups are in a different location they I certainly don't see it. Am I missing something??
 
No dude. By "articulation" i mean the tight tone of the string, which is created by a pickup, which is close to the bridge.
And the two stingrays posted by Tyler ....they have the PU in the same position.
 
Indeed they do, which proves someone's point.

I don't remember who's, but there it is, for all too see. :d
 
Then why I knew they were different? :-) I have to remember to take my vitamins...
Anyway, it makes sense to me to be closer to the neck for the B string, to have a tighter sound.
 
I thought closer to the bridge would give a tighter sound & closer to the neck a boomier,less articulated sound.

That is absolutely not true, that has nothing to do with "articulation" and the B string would be just as usable regardless of pickup placement.
The sound probably would be tighter but the B string is gonna feel and move the same.
