Met Victor Wooten at a clinic!

My buddy called me last minute to inform me of a clinic at Sam Ash in Miami, FL. I rushed over and got a first row seat to this amazing spectacle. Victor and his friend Anthony Wellington jammed for 20 minutes, simply ripping it up. Then for the next 2 hours he just laid down the lessons, answering questions and teaching.

This man is a genius. He has an extremely unique musical philosophy and approach to bass playing. I REALLY encourage you to check out his books (music lesson) or dvd's (groove workshop). He breaks down mental barriers and opens your mind to accept music as a language and to understand groove instead of theory. It sounds simple but he goes really deep into it.

There's a few more clinics. I think one is in North Carolina. Afterwards he signs anything. Very humble and amazing person.

I really had to share this experience and encourage others to get his book or see a clinic.
 
right on for you elpelotero! I am so jealous. I think VW is not only a great bass player, but from everything I've seen and/or heard, he is a great man and a great embassador for the instrument and for music in general. While he has a lot of great technique that he freely shares, and I would love to be able to emulate, I'm with you. I really dig his philosophy about music and his earnest desire to help other musicians not only fulfill there potential, but to take the music to the next level. Very cool.

Yeah, I would love to see VW in a bass clinic type situation. Heck I would be willing to give up Gastroks left nut to see Victor. I would give up mine, but I am still hoping to use it again someday.

So you were the guy with the red Corvette(if I remember well)... I think it was a very nice experience for you...:D
 
I saw two Warwicks in there. I knew one of them had to be on the forum.

The DVD is incredible!!! it is 6 hours and change though...

I met Victor Wooten and the Flecktones when they came to Fairfield University. They were awesome...and hilarious...especially Future Man. Everything he said to me rhymed...

They signed my CD, I got a picture with Victor, and they gave me their set list! it was so sweet!

Definitely get the DVD if you can. He opens new doors to thinking about music like soloing over the chromatic scale, displacing rhythms by 16th notes, grooving before finding the "right" notes, etc. FANTASTIC DVD!!!
 
Wow Gastrok, I just noticed how quickly and how willing you were to give up your left nut... Hmmmm, is it defective or something? Oh wait I get it. You were planning to replace it with a brass nut anyway so you'd have better sustain!

Wow... You actually got to meet the Flectones, that is so cool. I think Bele is a musical genius. Actually, I think the whole band is. All pioneers and true artist in their own right. This thread just keeps making me more jealous as time goes on. And to actually be in a Victor Wooten video, I had forgotten about that, that is on the top of the totally cool list. Right on for all of you. Great experiences I'm sure you'll treasure always ....
 
Yeah, thats me with long hair and my proline- before the preamp change and the addition of the ramp. Its embarrassing that I am on that video kind of because after that video I progressed and matured as a bass player so much. The time spent with Victor has definitely changed my life.

The other guy with the Thumb is my friend Dave- hes a forum member but he doesn't post much- his name is I think Darangatang. He is really, really good.
 
I liked one of his solos, but dude...your tone is great. Nice job playing on that man, don't be embarrassed. Actually, I may even watch the dvd again tonight.

I did notice that like everyone there had either a Fodera or a beastly Warwick, and pretty stellar amps on top of that. Do you remember what kind of rig you played out of? i saw someone had a fliptop Ampeg it looked like. The guy in the back with the 6 string Fodera. Again, great tone, playings great too....absolutely nothing to be embarrassed of....though no matter what i do, i feel weird seeing myself on video.......please dont turn that into a dirty joke. lol

that is great micheal! Really would have been an unforgettable experience mate. When you say 'the time spent with Victor' etc do you mean just the video shoot or have you studied with him before? Cheers!
