MEC preamp crapped out.

The preamp in my 90 thumb has gotten weak in the last few days, to the point where the passive mode is two times louder.

A few questions. What would cause this? Bad valume/blend pot? Preamp going out?

I replaced the battery wires and clip, stereo jack, and all connections are good. And yes, I tried 4 different batteries.

Also, if I use my mec pickups with an aguilar or emg 3band set, can I use their volume/blend pot? Or do I have to use the one from MEC?

MEC electronics are not very complex. What I strongly suggest (if you likie the sound of your instrument) is to replace the electronics with a new set from MEC. They have developed the same circuit with the same wiring and the same components, only with a stronger construction.

If you are looking to change a little bit of the sound of your instrument, the Aguilar will do the trick if you wire it the right way.

If I'm not mistaken it happen some time in 2002.

I have a 3 band in my Thumb but I've looked at other Warwicks with a 3 band & the electronics looks different.This explains it,cheers mate.
