MEC 2-way or MEC 3-way electronics

Gents,

I know this is a hotly debated topic, but sometimes simplicity is the ultimate complexity and can really help focus down on the tone.

Which do you prefer and why?

3 band, decided for these electronics for my BuzzTard. Let´s hope this works out. But this is something I could change back later. I really like to have the chance to boost the mids, especially because my live rig is an Ampeg which only knows one tone.

In a way, it depends on the bass in question. I prefer the 2-band on the Proline because I've not found a situation where I couldn't get just the right tone using different right hand technique. The '05 Hot Rod seems to need the mid control of a 3-band because its materials seem carry more mids naturally and sometimes I want to dial it back, especially for playing parts in the higher frets. I think I would prefer a 3-band on the $$ because I have found some gaps in the tone that could be easily addressed with a small tweak of a mid control.

But, I still think the 2-band is overall a more musical circuit to my ears so a +1 to schlobodan on the center freq comment. Agreed.

3-band. I want to be able to mid-cut heavily when I need to without relying on an external preamp.

Also so I can boost mids on a fretless.

My thoughts are 2 band for Fretted, 3 for Fretless. I don't really Cut my mids on a Fretted bass, but I like to add them on Fretless. As long as I can Crank the T, and add about 1/2 the B, I'm Happy. More Mids = More Mwah! (On FL)

Definitely 3 band for FL. I use the mid control a lot on my spektor, but I rarely touch it on my Jazzman, and don't miss it on my LX or LOLphin.

Had an old MEC2 in a SS2, totally disliked it.

3 way in the thumb, you can boost everything the right way

I can make either work, but definitely prefer 3-band for sure. I just like having that extra control over the mid-frequency. You can just dial in more variety of tone or fine tune the tone you're searching for with a 3-band in my opinion, and I'd rather do it from the bass than on the amp (I'm more of a set it and forget it on the amp kinda guy).

I much prefer 2EQ, but that's only om Warwicks really.
The mid-control on MEC 3 ways is in a very different EQ range then others, I don't like em.
