Check the main landing page on the Warwick site, on the bottom left, and you might see a familiar face. It's a little press release about a video I made for a software company, showing how to grab some great audio from their mobile app. I'm planning on going back to the company on Friday and recording some more demos as well, to expand the idea that musicians can use it.

It really is, Florin. The Coach's Eye app was designed for a coach to use his mobile device to record a student athlete in motion; whether swinging a bat, throwing a pitch, etc.. and then going back over it and notating what was going well and what wasn't. The easiest thing to compare it to is the "instant replay" in (American) football, where the announcer will review a play while drawing over it. By doing this, the Coach can give much better and more focused feedback and instruction to the athlete who, now that they can see exactly what they're doing right and wrong, has a better chance at improving their technique more quickly.

A friend of mine works at the company and as soon as he showed me the app, my first comment was "Musicians rely on technique and skill as well, so this would be a perfect fit for them." That led to a conference call with the team where we focused on the biggest hurdle for a musician to use this, which was audio. Given that much of the technique involves clear sound, I said we needed that aspect before you could adequately pitch the app to musicians, which led to the first video that you see.

This Friday I'll be going back to record some more demos to really show how the audio and the video come into play and work together. It should be pretty exciting! Here is a rough analysis I did of the program initially to show the CE team the capabilities the app has with musicians; it should give you a good idea of what it is and how we can use it and benefit from it.
 
Thanks very much, everyone! I'm pretty stoked about it, and the guys at the software company are giddy. Should set up to have a lot of energy for the second round of videos on Friday.

Speaking of which, if there's anything specific you guys would like to see on these, please let me know. What I'm planning on doing is a couple of vids with the program using some incorrect technique to use as an example of how to use the program to correct it. Then, I'll go back and record it correctly, so you can get an idea of how this could work as an educator as well as the impact it can have on your students.

Thanks! I think that once people see how easy it is to use, they will hopefully grab it and start utilizing it.

My other thought was to make another video where I'm talking about a technique I'm using, and using the video to slow down, make annotations, etc.. so that if I were making a how-to video, it would be very easy for the viewer to comprehend what I'm showing as well as be able to pick it up quickly.

You have some articles in the web-based Bass Musician Magazine, right? I`ve read some of them, they`re really helpful and interesting.

Thanks for the kind words; I'm glad that you're finding some good insight and hopefully learning something. If there's anything that you'd like to see addressed or discussed on BMM, please let me know. We all try to make it a mag that everyone wants to read, so shoot me any thoughts or ideas.

I always think of something, but never when I`m close to a computer. BUT, I`d like to know how you like that 6-string $$ of yours. I`ve long been thinking about a $$ Corvette (Warwick or Rockbass) or a $$ Streamer, but never taken the toll to set money off for one.

I like it a lot. With the pickup config, there are a ton of options, all of which are really great. It did take me a while at the beginning to figure out what settings I preferred and what settings worked well at the gig, but from there it was nice. If anything, since mine is a fretless I'm thinking of upgrading the preamp to the SD Steve Bailey pre to get a midrange control onboard.

Playability wise, the Corvette $$ is as light as a feather. I think it weighs LESS than my bubinga Corvette std 5!
