I feel like I'm losing it, and it's my fault. I took a break from practice over the holidays. So now I'm trying to play, and I don't sound like I should and the fingers won't cooperate as much. Does anyone else get like that after a break?
It's like I'm turning to rust lol...

my poor bass, i am not worthy of it :lol::((:roll:
 
Don't worry, just do basic exercices, and do your stuff, you will be as new in 3 days. Actually usually after you are back you will actually be a little bit better than before, that happens after a break :-)

Just don't think about it too much, and enjoy music.

+1 wise words florin. I find that after a break from practice/gigging that I approach things differently and it gives me a new and refreshing approach to my bass playing/music.
So don't stress lady warwick, after a few days you will be ripping again!
 
I've been in a trip for 2 weeks and after coming back to my basses I've found that my fingers act like after anesthesia injection. One day practice helped it out :)

yeah exactly! i've tooled a little bit but they just don't want to work right LOL!
 
That´s normal, once you get your normal playing rutine, your fingers will colaborate as usual. Enjoy. 8:
 
is it ok that i have to have tab with the music? i got hooked on tabtoolkit on my ipad....

i have a problem remembering where notes are on the frets except for a few. part of the reason is cos when i started, we used a book with tab and music...
 
i completely understand, i had a 20year break, slowly, but surely my fingers are now begining to co'operate.

Tabs is a drug to my opinion. You can learn the tune simply remembering where to press the string but you cannot analyze what you're playing. As far as I understood that fact I quit using 'em.
It depends on your experience, I guess. I had many hours of practice to learn a neck and to read sheet music. That's difficult but really useful.
 
I can read music, I used to know the bass clef way back in high school...I remember treble much more though. relearning bass clef has been hell.
i was gonna take music theory but i might put it off cos i dont have the $ to do it. i cant afford lessons right now either so im just messing around, if anything hoping to keep my fingers cooperative.

i want to just be able to read and know how to play it and where to play it.
 
There is a new way of learning to me. When I hear some tune which contains something interesting or weird to me, I make a note or tag it in Shazam for later inspection. I analyze harmony, translate the bass line and get overall composition picture. Play with it, improvise, cut off low end and create my own bass lines. That's fun!
Try it, if haven't done it yet. :)
However my reading skills are not that good as they were several years ago. No practice at that field unfortunately...
Anyway I wish you to have more fun with the music. Playing bass is so cool!
