loose JAN

On my bass (warwick corvette std 4) the nut is loose (during restringing)and one of the tabs is missing on the base part of the JAN. From reading, it sounds like this isn't a big deal. If you restring the bass with the right amount of downward pressure based on how windings are on the posts it will stay in place without rattling. I did a little reading in the old posts.

But the question is, is there consensus that you can successfully put it back together with the tab missing or should I order up a new assembly and replace the whole JAN?

It sounds like you have a just a nut 2 fitted to your Corvette.The broken side tab is very common & a new just a nut 3 has been issued to replace it.To retro fit the JAN3 is a very simple job & there's a good how to guide available here on the forum.
There's absolutely no hurry to change it coz the string tension will hold it in place without rattling,but just be careful not to lose it when you change strings.
As for the broken piece,just chuck it out.You can super glue it back on but it wont last.Basically,the tab is there to stop the nut falling off during string changes.
If you're in the USA,you can buy a JAN3 from a dealer like this guy.

ok, great. Thanks for the advice. Admittedly I don't play it. It's my son's. And he plays it endlessly so its been a crisis for him for the last 24 hours! I'll order it though and in the meantime he can get himself set up again and running.

I have no idea where the tab is. I'm not sure it was ever there.

Not only is the JANIII a replacement for the JANII because of the broken tabs, but it also addresses some other issues like the sharp edges on the JANII.
If you would prefer not to purchase the JANIII, as far as I know, though Dana B. Goods is no longer the official Warwick distributor in the US, they might have some on hand. When I dealt with them about my broken JANII, they sent me a JANIII for free.

Welcome to the forum Greg,

You can still using the nut without problems mate! Just put the strings back on, and play the bass ( not you, your son :-) )
